im thinking of starting warmachine/ hordes, but im not quite sure yet. want to play a few 'demo' games first. im also not sure what army to go with.

would someone give me a little run through of each faction? playstyle, bit of backstory, the usual. so far i like the models of the legion of everblight, but not sure if i like them as a whole yet.

Giving a game a few demos before starting is a great idea. Even the best games on the market won't suit everyone. The quickstart rules for both warmachine and hordes are on the PP site free to download. It could be beneficial to look them over before you dive in blind.

There is a great starter thread right here on Dakka with tons of resources for new players http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/272107.page

I also personally started a thread on a different website about choosing your faction and tried to make it comprehensive. This led to it being kind of long though so copying the whole thing over to a response isn't ideal. I hope a link will be enough.

Coming from a GW background you will probably find some of the concepts quite alien at first and it can be hard coming to grips on the differences. List building is more free-form with more viable options but there is a much greater focus on tactics over strategy once the game has started. There are really too many differences to go over and it would be much easier for us to respond to specific questions.

thanks for the reply. i'll look over your guide, dais.

i watched a game tuesday, when my 40k opponent was late, which is what got me interested. i didnt understand exactly what was going on, but i got the general idea of it, i think.

The thing with Warmahordes is that you need to have a clear plan at the beginning of the game that is suited to your enemy. In 40k, I always stuff my 2x10 KB in Rhinos and rush them forward whilst pulling the squishy enemy with Lash. And it works. In Warmahordes you need to think of your opponent and what list he is fielding. The tactics change depending on the army. I'm not very good and I've only played a few games but I'm learning.
