hi guys, I bought the grey knights codex today and I have made this list up, help needed I have no models but the vindicare assasain so far so harsh feedback is welcome

ordo malleus inquisitor, power armour, daemon blade
4 crusaders
vindicare assassin
grey knight strike squad psycannon, 4 nemesis force halberds, nemesis warding stave, psybolt ammunition
grey knight strike squad, psycannon, 5 nemesis force halberds

Few thing ti think about.


1) Inqusitors are really good, as they are some of the cheapest and most effective psykers in the game, and have access to some great wargear (psycannon for shooting or Rad grenades for combat).

HOWEVER

They should not be build to smack things themself. They are support characters, not combat ones. Most common builds are INQ with [Terminator armor and a Psycannon] or [Rad grenades], usually upgraded to a psyker and taking the divination lore.


2) Strike squads are a shooting unit with some limited combat ability. They should NEVER upgrade their force swords (too expensive, only 1 attack). Always take as many psycannons as you can.

Purifiers are the more combat oriented GK (though they are still powerful in the shooting phase). They have 2 attaks base and cheaper upgrades for halberds. If you want close combat GK in PA, these guys are the way to go.


3) The brohterhood banner is only worth its points if you take it in a 10 man squad. in a 5 man squad you give up 2-3 force weapon attacks from the guy holding it to gain 4 attacks. In a ten man unit it is worth the price, but not otherwise.

the same is true for psybolt ammo. It has the same cost, no matter the unit size, so it is a better value in larger units.


4) a unit of 4 crusader henchmen will not really do much. If you want ideas for henchmen units, there is a very extensive article in may signature that you can read if you want.


5) It is very easy to make a GK army a ton of points without very many models. I would be very careful of what you upgrade. You could probably fit in another unit or two or some transports into your list, just by dropping some upgrades you may not really need.

thanks for the advice, so would the inquisitor with the crusaders for bodyguard be a bad idea then?

Combine the two strike squads into one like this

10 strikes, 2 psycannon, hammer, kof with halberd, psybolt ammo - 255

Dreadnought is really good, you could even take two and lose the assassin, but thats personal preference.

5 termies, psycannon-225

Dread - 135

That leaves you 30 points, maybe some plasma cannon servitors or a cheap inquisitor. It has 3 very solid troops units that will be needed for all the objective missions

if you are running terminators and not a bunch of henchmen, I might recommend a Terminator inquisitor with a Psycannon instead of Coteaz and having him join the terminator unit.

You loose a LV 2 psykers (only get a LV 1 instead) but you gain another relentless psycannon which is very helpful at this low of a points level.

Cost is 110 instead of 100 for coteaz. You can even take some servo skulls for extra utility with your extra points (block scouts and infiltrators, possibly deep strike a unit?)

the way the inquisitor is armed it is only 48 points rather than 100

I think he was refering to the list I posted which uses the character Inquisitor Coteaz, he is 100 points but I find the 2+ save and ability to use 2 powers a go invaluable.

But a normal inquisitor is just as good if tooled right

Coteaz vs OM TDA psyker Inquisitor with Psycannon is hard choice. Point difference is only 10:

On other hand, Coteaz gives you second mastery level and ability to force opponent re-roll Seize. Chances of getting to use I've Been Expecting you are small.

Normal Inquisitor gives Prescience just as good and has also has Psycannon. Extra relentless psycannon goes long way.
