Subject: Shortest possible tray to hold a valkyrie?

Just wondering what's the shortest possible tray height that will fit a fully assembled Valkyrie. I've got one that is unbuilt, that I'm already thinking about ways to transport.
I ask because yesterday at the thrift store I found a huge "Tundra" case by Underwater Kinetics. The interior is about 18x27x8. It comes with a touch over 2 inches of eggshell on the top, what looks to be 3/4" of flat foam on the bottom and two very large slabs of 2.5 inch pluck, one on top of the other. Looks like this one, but it's bigger!

I know I could just use it as is and have the valkyrie slot take up the entire height. However, if I can fit the valkyrie into 3.5 inches of height, I could just use the top layer of the pluck (after putting a base layer on it) and modify the top sheet of eggshell.
While I'm at it, will a Leman Russ fit in 2.5 inch deep tray (either with or without the turret)?
Here's the real killer, the case only cost me $12.50. That's over 95% off and most of the foam is intact!

Very nice find. Ever so often you can stumble upon a treasure in those places.
While I haven't found something like that, I've found rave pants, 2 briefcases, and a framed fight club poster lol.

KR fit both in a 3/4 depth tray
http://www.krmulticase.com/trays.aspx?type=L&system=WH40K&army=IG&d=1
the 2/3 tray is 70mm compartment depth and a full depth tray is 110mm, so the 3/4 must be at very close to 3 inches.
The lehman russ fits in a half depth tray (i.e. 52mm even with a fixed turet. Not sure whether that is flat or on its side though.

I use this to transport my tanks (4 Chimeras, 2 Medusas, 2 LR Tanks, Manticore, Baneblade, 2 Hydras, 2 Vendettas)

For the Vendettas, I did not glue in the wings, leaving them modular for easy storage.

That's exactly what I need to know. looks like a 3/4 size tray is about 3.25 inches. Which means that I may be able to use just the top layer of foam with an extention and replacing the eggshell with something thinner, leaving the bottom free for other things.
Thanks!
Good news about the russ also. I'm pretty sure it's a flat measurement as 52mm is two inches. With turret it should fit easily into a single layer of 2.5 inch pluck.

Do you think I could use just that as a lazy man's way to transport my entire army? It's really heavy on bikes and terminator models. I do a lot of air travel so getting something like that which is TSA-compliant would be wonderful.

That's quite a large case! I considered rifle cases, but settled on 4 pistol cases for most of my figs just to keep them in cases that will more neatly fit on shelves.

Gun cases are a really good deal, sometimes costing less than the foam that comes inside them would if purchased separately!

Nice find in the poster.
I'm a huge shopper at Resale Shops. Even though I rarely find gaming-specific stuff (did find a battleforce box filled with half-used vehicle accessory sprues for 3 bucks once though...) resale shops are the source for most of my terrain. Toy buildings and such -when properly greebled- are great for wargaming. Here's a building and toy truck that cost me a buck each. After conversion and painting they look great on the gaming table.
Also I just finished 4 warehouses made from a bag of ERTL building parts from a resale shop, but they haven't been blogged yet. Look for them soon!

It works well for bikes, but I am not sure about Termies. With infantry you would probably better of with something like a pistol case. I have two separate cases for my IG infantry and two more smaller cases for the rest of my tanks. They make a smaller version of the case I posted as well. For air travel though, getting a plastic hard case would probably be better, as you can lock those with a padlock.
