What's a good way to paint the Black Legion? Please note that I'm a highly incompetent painter. You'll need to be very specific.

Prime in chaos black.
Trail the inner ridges with a light light grey. As well as the face.
Wash in black ink.
Paint the metal parts in gold.
Paint the eyes blood red. Then a spec of 50 50 red Gore bone white on the eye, then a tiny dot of white on the eye.
Horns
Snakebite leather
rotting flesh
Devlan mud

I painted my black legion with gold on the trim, but I've had so many people complain that "black legion should be painted with brass on shoulder trim and silver on legs, leaving gold only for HQ's and other important characters." Paint em' how ever you want, just stick with metallic trim. A very light silver drybrush works good for highlighting the black areas.

Black Legion are very cool, nice pick!
We paint a lot of black armies at our studio and a simple trick we've learned that helps a ton, looks great, and is fast, is to zenithal highlight (with an airbursh, of course) the infantry with a grey, and then line highlight the vehicles with the same grey and again, using an airbrush.
It gives a nice, subtle highlight to models that otherwise can look really flat. They still look black, but it gives them some depth.
Good luck with it!

Thanks guys. So, I don't have access to an airbrush. So here's what I think I'll do;
1) Prime in Chaos Black primer
2) Coat of Abaddon Black
3) Drybrush Warpfiend Grey
4) Nuln Oil wash
Would this work?

id go with black paint!
nah to be serious i wouldnt go with black.
prime it in black and then paint it with a very dark grey color! (like vallejo air color german grey) and then later paint larger flat areas in black. that will eliminate the highlighting problem because you will create some sort of a gradient/ then if you edge hightlight with a brighter grey, it wont look unnatural.
