If you somehow have never seen the Sword of the Stars franchise, you owe it to yourself to check out Sword of the Stars and Sword of the Stars II.... simply put its Shogun Total War in space.... just cooler. To me it really fits into the 40k mindset. IF they ever did a 40k Civ/Strat game, these guys should make it.

Be aware that when SotS2 released it was unplayable. So much so that they gave refunds. Not only was it horribly buggy but it was massively feature incomplete. I have no clue if they ever got it to a playable state, but it still was randomly crashing two months after release and incomplete (the last time I tried to play). I personally will not be giving them money without seeing a completed product.

sots2 has been playable for some time now, for most people at least. They have recently given it the all-clear, meaning the game is as it should've been at launch.
It was as terrible incident that should've been avoided, regardless the game is good, and the first is still a great play.
Would be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Yeah, SotS2 is at the point now where they're adding wish list type features and streamlining things based on user feedback. I haven't had a stability issue in a few months.

What I have had, is a ton of fun. This kickstarter is a test run for KP, they felt like a lot of the problems with the release was due to things out of their control... and they want control back. So they're seeing how this all works out and maybe this will be the way their next big box project is funded and ran.

Did they ever release a real post mortem on what caused the snafu? Last I heard it was something along the lines of someone pushing out a pre-alpha build that overwrote the release candidate and they had no backups?

The pre-alpha got pushed but got replaced with a more complete build a few days later. I think it was simply a case of "publish or perish" gone awry.

Yeah, to me, KP bent over backward to try and make it right. They were very upfront that the publisher had pushed it out early, and that it would take until March to get right.
