After re-reading the ending parts of "Dead men walking" I just kept thinking to myself what if it was the necrons on varks instead and facing the full force of the seige regiments?
I mean I feel the death korps may have made a fight of it afterall. Or maybe if the Fall of Damnos necrons were squared up to the varks number of seige regiments. Who'd win that mess?

It sounds like one of those battles that would go on for decades. The Krieg forces playing 'hot potato' with meltaguns before they get gaussed to death and being gradually reinforced (Krieg regiments are reinforced in the field right? Or is that Vostroyan? Late at night things get confused), while the necrons do what they do best and walk forwards killing.

The Siege of Vraks was a much larger operation than that carried out in Dead Men Walking, and had a lot of pre-planning that went into it. It was also a much different operation that involved landing in what was already known as hostile territory and slowly obliterating everything in their path with millions upon millions of Krieg troops involved.
If the Necrons were facing a Vraks style situation, then the conflict likely would have ended very differently given the vast differences in manpower and firepower available, but that's also war on Krieg's terms that the Necrons likely would have avoided fighting I would think.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

I doubt it would have gone much different. The Siege of Vraks was actually a significant/major Imperial campaign involving a large amount of resources, including an entire Brotherhood of Grey Knights (which is rare for Imperial Armor books which tend to focus on exclusive lesser battles)

Oh I didn't mean that it would have ended differently for the Imperium on Vraks, rather that it would have ended differently than the end of Dead Men Walking.
Although, as odd as it sounds, despite all the resources devoted to Vraks, it's still basically a tiny, almost insignificant sideshow of a war, despite matching the scale of combatants of the 3rd Armageddon war :p
Oh GW and your inability to deal with numbers.

The Necrons on Damnos differ from most Tomb Worlds in that they woke up with the ability to wage full on war. Rather then the slow buildup we see most of the time. We also have to remember that the events in Fall of Damnos was because of inter Necron politics. Who later move on to retake an important spar of the webway and attack a signifigant area of space. Nearly any imperial world that was to get the "Damnos" attack would fall.
Damnos', spaceport had some good defences and the Necrons of Damnos would just teleport behind or dig undernether them. A siege force would be at a disadvantage vs a force like this.
