The ctan chard is a decent choice if you use him correctly. In my experiences of using them i have created a sort of set of guidelines for them.

1.Always give him a ranged attack: there is nothing worse than having your enemy backpedaling and shooting him

2.Always have a way to get him to the front line: He is a really tasty target so you ether want to protect him with a solar pulse, bring him through a deep striking monolith, etc.

3.Use powers to complement the rest of your army while ensuring that they decimate your opponent; like writhing world scape is great against anything that's NOT a marine.

Follow these guidelines and your ctan will actually do something in your battles!

(But truth be told deathmarks, lychgaurd and triarch stalkers have a tendency to do more.)

Well, the combo of Wraiths w/ whip coils and a C'tan w/ time arrow is devastating.

The Eternity Gate

When I run one, mostly for fun games, I run pyreshards and gaze of death. Give a decent anti-infantry shooting ability and is very deadly in CC with the ability to regain wounds.

A great trick is DS a monolith then pull the C'tan through the portal to sling shot it across the board.
