I'm attempting to do simple arm/hand swaps on the AoBR boyz. I have two samples done, do these look good?

They look ok to me - despite the size and apparent weight of a shoota, I reckon a boy would be strong enough to carry and shoot one one-handed.

Do watch out for balance though - the 2nd/3rd one (2 pics of the same figure, I presume) is so front heavy he looks like he (and the model) are about to tip over.

They look really unbalanced to me. I don't just mean that in the way that the models might fall over, but visually. It makes the models very awkward in how their weight is distributed.

They might be a bit unbalanced, but I gotta make do with what I have. That just happens to be 40+ AoBR boyz and 40 sets of shoota arms. Though I do think that the others I put together look a bit better.

If you're willing to do a bit more work and chop the choppa arms off, you can make some great looking shoota boyz.

I did that on some of them, and IMO, they look pretty good.

I also looked at the 2nd one I posted and its leaning foward because it's not yet glued down fully upright.

I did a ton of these... Just cut of the arms and put them on like you would on a normal shoota boy. Yours do look really unbalanced, and the "in line with the body" choppa arm is the ugliest thing that could exist on ork models.

Take the time, cut the molded arm off, and you will have a great looking set of shoota boys.

Not to mention if your skills arnt up to par, you can just stick shoulder pads over the arms to hide anything that looks bad

When I converted mine, I cut the choppas off. It helps a bunch with the balance and look. Also, the chainsword choppas, when chopped off right, look like knuckle dusters, which is pretty Orky

This is exactly what I did. Easy peasy and it looks fine, just be sure to cut along the natural lines of the body. You will have to cut a few of the should pads in half, but its no big deal to just shave the left over bits the rest of the way off or bulk them back out with some green stuff. But adding in the original shoota boy arms was my perferred method as I had a ton left over from my 80 or so sluggaboys that I've built over the years.

Saw off the arms, file down the site and apply the shoota arms. It's easy!
