I havn't played much of the new WHFB, still learning it a bit. What do you think of this list? I know the GUO is expensive but with 10 wounds he is pretty tough (untill he fails an I test to one of the many Spells that removes from play). But I couldn't think of any better way to spend the 485 points.

What do you think? Would you change anything while still keeping in with the Nurgle theme?

I would get Epidemius with that many Nurgles. And I would give your plaguebearers magic banners. If you start poisoning on 4+ and it adds to combat resolution they are going to be really hard to beat.

Add another Nurgle Herald and make them both 1lvl casters. Even if they only give regen, that will be 2 units that now have it and it's less likely they will get hit with Flaming. The signature spell from Nurgle is really good in a unit:unit fight.

Lose the GUO. HE's way too expensive for what he does. And someone is going to have a war machine or mega spell and pop him. Or just tarpit him. If you want to keep something big and cool, get a forge world soulgrinder


It's expensive and doesn't have a base, though. It does a lot of what the GUO does but it doesn't add to the epidemius total because he's generic Daemon.

I don't think you need quite so many nurglings and furies. Your real juice will be your plaguebearers getting buffed by epidemius. Get more of them, heralds, banners. Nurglings for some tarpit and furies for some tarpit/redirect/war machine hunting. Soulgrinder for early game pounding and anti-monster/hero. When you get a high enough tally, your poison will be really hard to stop.

You might also consider a banner of hellfire. Epidemius gives you a bonus to cast nurgle, but you're not going to have many spellcasters. So you're going to have extra power dice sitting around doing nothing. If you REALLY don't want to use a TZ loremaster (and you can always say he's a nurgle caster and use Death lore or whatever, he just doesn't add to Epidemius total), then you have very little casting. Even with a GUO, that's only lvl 2. Hellfire gives you something to throw dice at and it can't miscast.

I've given it a little thought and come up with the following list. I couldn't fit the Hellfire Banner in because of my Hero allowance won't allow it with Epidemius and two level 1 Heralds.

What do you think of this list?

I think you'll be pretty strong. Again, I don't know if you need so many furies. Maybe just 1 unit. They are LD 2. You can use them to suicide attack something, but a whole lot of stuff is just going to make them crumble almost immediately. You can use the nurglings to guard your flanks.

Another trick is to dump the lvl 1 on one caster and give him a Staff of Nurgle. It will give you something to throw dice at that actually causes dmg. And it will directly raise the wounds caused on your Epidemius total. That or the breath weapon. The point is you want to hit the 4+ poison ASAP because your army simply doesn't do much dmg without it.

A bunch of steadfast, regen 4+, ward 5+, fear, S4, T4, dudes who poison on a 4+ is actually pretty scary. You still never get super hammer-y, but you hope to take less wounds and hang around. Depending on who you are facing, you might reform from 5 across to a horde formation when you get the poison bonus. That way you can have 3 ranks of attacks who auto wound on 4+.

Q: Do Poisoned Attacks that wound automatically on a To Hit roll
of 5+ or better still need to hit to cause a Wound?(p73)
A: Yes

So, there's still that. When you get the 4+ poison, you would auto hit and auto wound anything with WS of 1-6 if you roll a 4,5,6, regardless of toughness. So about a 50% chance to hit and wound anything in the game on every single attack on your Core troops. And the S4 of PB is -1 armor save. That's great stuff. Which is why you might want to reform to Horde to get an extra row of attacks in.

In my 2k demon list im using a demon prince and 3 units of 21 bearers...

But i like where your going with the hordes on this :-)

Its just that lack of defence for magic that gets me :-\ just a level 1 and no scroll...

But its cost me like 500pts for a level 2 so... I cant say im right either :-).

Like above im not a fan of the furies and they dont help your tally (which is amazing)

Could you not just field daemons from the other gods that happen to have nurgle's rot - a one eye, one horn bloodthirster or a herald 'dispel caddy' of Tzeentch.

I have wanted to field a DoC army, with a single unit of nurglings / beast of nurgle, with everything else infected with Nurgle's rot.

The list is looking pretty good, daemon princes and greater daemons tend to get owned and do nearly nothing because of the huge amount of points spent and the target they provide for warmachines. Not too sure you need the lvl 1 caster for each herald but, you definately need noxious vapors on those heralds to be effective. Especially since its a full themed nurgle army, no shooting and always striking last (more or less) the vapors will give you a big edge that the list currently doesnt have.
