I'm still yet to play a game of 6th and I was just wondering what powers I can take with my librarian (codex marines). The FAQ says I can choose from either the codex powers or from biomancy, pyromancy, telekinesis or telepathy. My question is am I able to choose one from the codex and then one from the rule book or do I have to choose both from the same place?

it's an all or nothing, if you choose the codex it's random unless you take the Primaris.

IIRC, you can pick one from each, but don't quote me on that. I know Grey Knights cannot, but believe that is their FAQ. Arhiman however I was told could, so I don't know about Nilla Marines.

you were partially correct.
Biomancy, Pyromancy,
Telepathy or Telekinesis disciplines (in any combination)
you can generate 2 in any combination. however generating is random

True, however you can always choose to substitute the Primaris power, even after you've rolled and don't like the result.
SO always roll, hope to get a good one, if you get a crappy one, then just take the Primaris =P They're always good!

Download and read your FAQ; the link is in my sig.
A given psyker (who is allowed to swap in the first place; the FAQ says who can) must either swap all his codex powers for rulebook powers, or none. The only exception is GK Librarians, who must keep Hammerhand.

Is Ahriman an exception as well? I was told he can have one Tzeentch, and one rulebook for each of his three remaining levels, for a total of four powers. One from his codex book, and three from the BRB.

Yes, and all marked sorcerors. Chaos, being the first 6th edition odex, has its own rules for picking psychic powers.

It is currently as such.
For non 6th ed codices you may have the codex powers or a gamble on the brb tables that you are allowed as per your FAQ.
For chaos you must roll up to half of your powers on chaos tables (min 1) dependent on you having a mark and the rest from the brb.
