Currently I have a Codex Space Marine primary detachment that has a completely empty heavy support in its FOC and have been looking at ways to fill it. I lack any real fondness for painting vehicles beyond dreadnoughts and with the change to HP in the new edition have found vehicles to be even less appealing. That said Devastator squads are incredibly over priced for their usefulness and thus have no real use within my list.

The two options I have been looking at are the Thunderfire Cannon or the Rapier Laser Destroyer (Forgeworld), the guys I play with are fairly relaxed about using forgeworld units so I should be alright to use either, however I am unsure as to which would be the most useful. My list is mostly tactical squad with plasma (cannon, pistol, gun), dreadnought with melta, termis with fists/flamer, termies with fists/cannon. I also have a space wolf secondary detachment with long fangs to support the list (missile launchers). To this end I dont know which of the artillery better fits my list.

My current pros and cons are:

Thunderfire Cannon -
Multi Use
Nice kit.
More expensive of the pair (points and £££)
One per HS slot

Rapier Laser Destroyer -
Excellent anti-tank
Cheaper of the pair
3 per FOC slot
Limited range
Limited usefulness against infantry

Advice welcome!

Well, the Rapier is anti-tank while the thunderfire is anti-infantry. Whichever one you need more should be your answer.

I perfer the rapier as it can crack open heavy tanks easily. However depending on your meta you might get alot of tanks or very few tanks. I TF cannon is more all round, but it will struggle against armor. Rapier can snap shot, not sure what situations artillary wound snap shot (if there even is one) but its an option. It can also hit flyers if needed (put that TL to use)

But yeah, it really depends on your list and what you play.
