Subject: Ideas for converting a basilisk(the lizard not the tank)

I started doing miniatures a few months back and so far painted quite a few lizardmen infantry, a few heroes etc. The next thing I want to do is a large piece. I came across this model on forgeworld:
Now I want a lizardmen character to ride it. I know there's a few I could chose that I could probably jsut slip right on, like the one from GW riding the carnosaurus. But all of those are sauruses. What I really want is a "mage" looking lizard riding it, but I dont think a slaan would fit.
Anyone got a suggestion on a character that would look good on top of this basilisk? I can do quite a bit of green stuff work as long as it's not too complicated.

A really ornamented Skink would look pretty cool.

Maybe that one could work? all though I guess it's in "metal" and thus very hard to reposition the legs and tail.

The legs, tail and blade are all together on him :(
Got the model on me since i run a pure skink list.
He is however rather large compared to other skinks, so you could easily cut both legs off at the groin area and use saurus legs on him.
The blade could be an easy swap and a re-pose of his arm.
Failing that, if you dont mind a bit of work and some sculpting, a chameleon skink chief would look great on the model.
Looks very similar to the bassie and could be used as a normal skink chief, or make your own rules.

Yeah I guess it will be a bit of "trial and error", I think the current GW range of lizardmen is quite disappointing when it comes to heroes, most models seem really old and I think some of the old skinks looks quite bad compared to the new plastic skinks.

Could allways use tiktaq'to as a rider for it.
Got a nice ornate feel to it and should go onto it without any real problems.

Good idea. I'll buy both and either the rider fits on the basilisk or he doesn't. If he dont I'll just use the basilisk on his own and the flyer separate, I think. It will be rather costly but well worth it I guess. Guess I could make a cool "harness" or somethign similiar, got some really thin jewellery chains and it looks like that guy could hold it in his right hand with some fixing.

His right hand is perfect for holding a chain or restraint
Also, that would give you a spare terradon in a different pose to the normal ones, so if you have a unit of them, you now have one for a brave or even for a chief to ride.

I just wish there was some website with pics of the parts and measurements, I'm still very fresh so maybe there is? I have no idea if the saurus will be "size appropriate" for the basilisk.

While i dont own the basalisk, you can get a rough size from the pics.
That empire model is a bit smaller than a basic saurus.
So a saurus would not look weird on it atall.
A skink should also look fine on it, but maybe a bit on the small side, but not too much.

Also for the colors I'm thinking of making the basilisk in a green/yellow color similiar to my skinks in my gallery. However, I will make the color slightly more brownish and not as vibrant. For the rider I will probably make it red. I got a dark green theme on my "standard" saruses but my special saruses(temple guards, old ones) will have a dark red color.
