Well, the title explains itself. I'm looking for any drop pod thingy that arrives at the same time that Mordrak is going to, this is, turn 1.

Making this viable, first we have to know that Mordrak comes with 5 ghosts, and that in turn 1 they can't assault. So, we have this:

12x shots of stormbolter
6 bodies with termi armour (capable of resist 1 turn of shooting)
Deepstriking where they want without dispersion

Now, getting this thing I'm looking for scary, this is what I got:

Logan Grimnar
2x wolfguard combimelta/stormshield
1x wolfguard thunderhammer/stormshield
1x wolfguard thunderhammer/stormshield & CML
Drop pod

This adds 2 shots of melta or 4 bolter ones, plus 2 of a CML and the Logan's stormbolter. Plus the 2 of the drop pod.

In total, it means 18 bolter shots, 2 CML shots, or if there's a tank nearby, 14 bolter shots, 2 CML shots and 2 melta shots.

Now, to get it even more edgy, I could add a teleporter dreadknight, with sword and H. incinerator. Now you've an entire army in your face at turn 1, and in my local meta, not very much people can handle that, mostly because it's never seen.

Needless to say, if this survives 1 turn of shooting (11 TDA, 1 Dreadknight, they SHOULD survive), the assault that comes later is just as painful as an kick in your nuts.

What I'm looking for is to know if there's something better, cheaper, whatever of this space wolves allied detachment, because I know that it must be hard to play vs necrons, for example, but amazing vs tau, for example.

Take in account that the primary detachment may have more things, such as GKSS, Dreadnoughts, or whatever, and that the point limit is 1500.

Thanks in advance.

Only problem with lists like this, either they'll work or not. There's really not much middle ground.

How many points is all of that. If you are only playing 1500 points you won't have too many support units. Also the alpha strike is pretty weak. At most you are killing one vehicle and some infantry. Not enough to justify the cost. Also any good shooty army will be able to kill off those guys in one turn. If not one turn then they will be too weak to matter.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I would suggest a much cheaper pod unit. Say 10 grey hunters with double melta. Much cheaper and will have the same effect.

I run a list like this at 1850.

Mordrak + Ghost Knights

Lysander + Sternguard in Drop Pod
-4ish Combi-Meltas

Dreadknight with Teleporter and Sword

Scout Squad with Telion, Aegis, and Icarus Lascannon

Dakka Stormraven with Hurricane Bolters and Psybolts

Vindicator

They key to it is using Mordrak's ability to make some non-standard units scoring. Mordrak and the DK are the scary units that your opponents have to worry about. Sternguard with Lysander are a downright nasty swiss-army knife that can take on a large variety of targets, and Telion in the backfield can either shoot at planes or snipe Meltas out of squads.

It works pretty well.
