So with the death of the Kan Wall and the Green Baron in 6th I've had to revise my Ork strategy a lot, and I've been play around with new units.
I realised I have a Gazzy and about 10 nobz that I never really tried, so I've been trying to come up with a Green Tide list to accodate them.
Now, before anyone suggests them, I dont really have the money to buy battlewagons, trukks, or meganobz. I'd love to get some meganobz in particular, but they are so expensive. Unless you have a guide that shows how to convert nobz to meganobz, it's not really an option. What I do have is 3 Koptas, 9 dreads, and all you see in this list :
HQ
Gazzy
KFF Big Mec
Elite
7 Nobs with Painboy, Waaagh Banner, Cybork Armor, 'eavy Armor, 1 PK, 5 Big Choppas
Troops
30 Shootas with 3 Big shootas, PK Nob and bosspole
30 Shootas with 3 Big shootas, PK Nob and bosspole
30 Sluggas with PK Nob and bosspole
Heavy
11 Lootas
I have no doubts the boyz are good, and whiule I would love to have a couple of more lootas, I think 11 just puts me on the 1500pts mark.
The question really is about the Nobz. They look extremely beefy, but also extremely vulnerable to the dreaded battlecannon. If I play against Tyranids or something I will be fine, but against IG I will get slaughtered.
What do you do against Battlecannons? I am thinking just getting more wounds on the Nobs. So perhaps dropping the 'eavy armor for an extra Nob? The 5++ plus FNP should be enough for small arms fire. And how about the Choppas? Are they really worth it given that I already charge at Str 5? If I remove them and a Big Shoota or two I might squeeze another nob there. But then if I run into monstrous creatures I might have a problem.
Thoughts? General advice on running Nob mobs?

My friend converts his nobs to meganobz using plastic card. I'll see if he has a blog/tutorial about it.

Considering the sheer number of AP4 or better weapons in the game, I think taking Cybork bodies instead of 'eavy armour is the better choice. A 5++ w/ FNP will guarantee more save rolls.
That saves you 35 points to pop in a couple more Lootas or even an additional Choppa/slugga Nob. 5 Str 5 attacks on the charge is not bad at all. Put the barebones Nob in the front of the squad so he is the first to die, absorbing wounds from your Big Choppas.

Oh I am absolutely getting Cybork bodies, I was just wondering if it was worth getting both, but I am thinking not.

I would also consider running Gazzy as just a Mega Armoured Warboss. Half the cost, does nearly the same thing. That automatic 6 inch run is nice, but you can't use it until turn 2, and by that point hopefully your Shootas are in range to shoot instead of running that turn.

That might be an idea there, though I really do like Gazzy's 2+ invun on Waaaag ability.Still, I might consider it, if only so I can get a couple of my Koptas in the game. Automatically Appended Next Post: Anyone have any suggestions about the Nobs?

I really enjoy running a squad of nobs on bikes with a Boss Pole and Big Choppas (if you are allowed to proxy them); even if it makes them a little expensive I have had some really good successes with them and not too many failures but YMMV.
From another post of mine awhile back:
I like the idea of nobs on bikes:
- Hammer of Wrath hit at I10
- Toughness 5 makes them hard to wound
- 4+ Cover Save (Exhaust Cloud)
- Multi wound
- Fast Attack = 12 inch move to get in close quickly, and they can fire their dakkaguns because they are relentless
- S5 on the charge (S7 with a big choppa, which can crack some tanks)
They're just a great unit!
In this situation, the S7 hit on a LRBT AV10 will need 3's to glance 4+ pens - as opposed to a S5 hit which you need 5's on your favourite dice of death but 6's to pen.
Give them a shot and remember to have fun!

I don't really have any spare bikes.
So am guessing running Nob mobs with Ghazzy is a bad idea then?

Yeah, if you aren't allowed to proxy then bikes are off the table.
A lot of people on here are against putting Ghazzy with Nobs arguing that Nobs kill stuff well and Ghazzy kills stuff well. Putting them together simply makes the same unit twice as dead.
While I have never really used Ghazzy together with foot Nobs, I can see their point.
Is there a reason you were thinking about putting the two together?

I would just try it out and see if you like it. bikes are certainly the prefered way to go, but that doesnt mean their the only. I think if you could somehow convert them into meganobz though that would be the ideal way to go as far as footslogging nobz goes, I dont suppose you have a trukk?

The main problem with your list is you only have 11 Lootas, you should have at least twice that. Oh and Lootas are Elite and the Nob squad can be made troops with Ghazz or a normal warboss

Kremlin, no particular reason, I happened to have a spare Gazzy mini, and I wanted to find a way to use him with what i got. I figured Nobs would be a good idea.
Perhaps I should do the Kommando thing, but with the new outflank rules it looks really risky.

Kommandos can't do anything in 6th since they can't charge the turn they come on. One round in the open against IG-you know what that means. Flashlights can burn you to death if you give them a free turn of shooting. Even if you survive, the tanks will likely be bubble-wrapped in Guardsmen and you won't be able to do anything other than squish a few humies, something the average IG player won't really care about.
The problem with regular Nobz is that they're vulnerable to both heavy weapons (ID) and light weapons (poor save). Frankly, IG is probably the last army you want to try your Nobz against. Especially footsloggin' Nobz. Since Orks lack reliable S8+ long range shooting, LRBTs will pretty much reign supreme, there is little you can do about it. You could try splitting your Lootas and placing them in the corners of the board so that you get at least some side armor shots, but 5-6 Lootas lack the volume of fire to reliably damage AV13. There is simply no way I can see to crack a properly screened LRBT with the models you have, so you must take the fire and move on, in which case dropping your Nobz and using Ghaz with more Boyz starts looking good.

Nobz as a mob are still one of the best CC units in the game even in this edition.
Since you're taking Ghazzy you really should put them in a BW. Just drop the PK Nobz out of your 30 strong Boyz mobz. I've just been finding them useless these days, aside from being assaulted by a Dreadnought there isn't much that 30 Boyz can't handle, or at least survive against in CC for 1 round (at which point they get helped by more boyz)
Running Ghazzy as a Mega Boss is also a good option to shave points, at 1500 he's a bit pricey in my book (not that he doesn't krump gitz, but he's more of an 1850+ HQ to me)
3 Nobz with PK and BP= BW with Deffrolla, Big Shoota and RPJ.
I haven't been running the KFF Big Mek as much lately, correct me if I'm wrong but his 5+ only affects models within 6" of him now, so he doesn't screen boyz off like he used to.
For covering the BW I prefer a unit of Bikerz or a squad of DeffKoptaz with Big Shootaz, both are cheap and hearty and provide back up shooting/assault to the Nobz.

Units, still, I think. Though I might be wrong. It's just that, since "Vehicles count as obscured" seperates Vehicles from Infantry, the Squadrons were FAQ'd to be "Only models in the bubble" instead of Majority.
