Hi, I have just started playing Hordes and have the 2 player battle box and was wondering what models would be the best to expand to a 25pt army? Also should I replace any that I am currently using.

I currently have these:-

Warlock Lylyth, Herald of Everblight
Carnivean heavy warbeast
4 Shredder lesser warbeasts
Blighted Ogrun Warspear unit

One of Legion's greatest strengths are our solos and fury managment. I'd highly recommend getting at least one Shepherd and/or Forsaken. They are a staple in a number of lists and help run our beasts hot.

After that you can go a number of different directions and depending on what other casters you feel like exploring next will change what you should purchase.

You can't go wrong with a Scythean and/or a Ravagore. These two heavy beasts are without a doubt our greatest assets. The Scythean has reach giving it one of our best natural threat ranges and hits hard especially when supported by a caster, and also has takedown as an animus which is very useful against tough and has a RFP effect. Ravagores are just money. Long ranged high pow blast that can set things on fire with its animus. It is a threat to casters and helps to keep your opponents honest when they play.

After those I'd say Deathstalkers, Striders+UA, Raptors+Annyssa, Legos + Spawning vessel, the Angelius (I prefer them in pairs), are all very solid options and go in a number of lists. Again it will be more dependent on what other casters you want to play.

Lylyth1 loves Striders+UA due to the feat along with fury management and another heavy. Its ok if the shredders frenzy so don't worry about their fury going out of control. Use your management on your heavies to keep them effecient. Raptors and Annyssa are also great with her. Her feat affects range and melee so it's good to mix it up. Parasite is a great spell, but Lylyth has to get within bow range to get it off, which can be dangerous. I'd recommend Spell Martyrs since they are dirt cheap and are a great utility choice and will go in a lot of lists. They are 1pt throw away arc nodes. You run them up and cast a spell through them and can get some ridiculous range while keeping your caster safe.

What other casters where you thinking of moving to next after you play Lylyth1?

You really need fury management, forsaken mostly, like said above and probably another heavy (a magnetized ravagore/scythean would be the best choice). If you plan to keep using the warspears then you almost certainly want to get the warmonger war chief as he adds so much to blighted ogrun.

I honestly feel that the Shepherd is a better Fury Manager for Lylyth than the forsaken. Don't get me wrong, I reach for my Forsaken before my Shepherd (I run three with Absylonia), but the Shepherd has tools that the Forsaken doesn't.

Lylyth has a horrendous control area, and the Shepherd helps with that. If your carnivean/Scythean gets hurt, the Shepherd can heal it to keep her one heavy hitter up and running, also keeping her full on Fury.

Once you get past Lylyth to casters with more than 5 Fury (although you may decide you like her best anyway), I far prefer the Forsaken. I have assassinated casters with them, I have killed heavy beasts with one Blight Shroud, I have even annihilated units with one or two well-placed Shrouds. They bring a lot to the table...they just aren't quite as good at pure beast management as the Shepherd.
