Subject: Swapping grenade for another weapon?

Hi there
While reading in the chaos codex, I noticed the wargear sections said: a model can replace one weapon with ......
So does this mean a warpsmith can replace his krak grenades, for instance, with burning brand of skalathrax, as grenades are weapons, right?
And a second question. Is it possible to exchance one or both of his mechatendrils weapons for something else?
Aaaand the last question: Would a warpsmith, that gets charged, be able to fire 1 or 2 weapons? I suppose its only 1, as the description for mechaatendrils says he is allowed to fire 2 weapons in the shooting phase.
Thanks and I eagerly await your swift replies

Grenades are grenades, they are more akin to pseudo weapons.
Short answer no swapping of grenades for other weapons.

1) No.
2) Not that I can see.
3) Is overwatch in the shooting phase? No

For weapon classification, you need to look at where the item is described in the rulebook or Codex.
You'll notice the sections on ranged and melee weapons... and then a separate section for grenades. So no, they don't class as a weapon, though they *may* be used as such.
Same goes for the mechatendrils - they're not listed as weapons in the Chaos Codex (wargear instead, I believe) so you can't swap those either.

thank you for your quick responses
Ok, question 2 and 3, I agree on.
But I looked in the section of weapons in the rulebook. While the grenades were indeed listed by themselves, they were also very clearly listed in the weapons section. Some grenades, like frag, also had a ranged weapon profile. Others ( like krak had both a ranged and a close combat profile. Which for me indicates, yes they are classified as a weapon, just not excusively a ranged or ccw, which is why they have their own section.

When codices refer to weapons they talk about combat weapons and ranged weapons, grenades are weapons but they don't fall under the previous headings.

isnt Overwatch considered a shooting phase style attack made at BS1 when being charged?
In that case a model that is allowed to fire two weapons in the shooting phase (such as a Tau Crisis Suit with a multi-tracker and two weapons, MCs with two shooty weapons) would be able to fire both when overwatch takes effect.

It sure is. Page 21...
"An Overwatch attack is resolved as a normal Shooting attack"
So that includes Walkers, Gunslinger, the Crisis Suit... it's also what allows multi-shot weapons like, say, Rapid Fire or heavy bolters to fire at full effect.

in fairness. Grenades are listed under the "Weapons" section of the BRB.
Seriously though, I dont believe that GW meant for grenades to traded in for other weapons.
