List Building Tactics

So this is what I typically look for when i am constructing any of my lists.
-Anvils/Tarpits
-Hammer
-Supporting Units
-Flaming Attacks
-Missile Fire
-Templates
-Magic Defense

Anvil/Tarpit since I am going Peasant Heavy its fairly straight forward inclusion, two blocks of Men at Arms. I find that units of 40 works well (also because I do play in ETC quite often this works in both formats of the game). These units cannot function well on tehir own and do require some investment into making them synergise well with the rest of the list. So one unit will house the BSB and the other unit will have the Prophetess, each bringing their own strengths.

Prophetess - As many people know the Prayer Icon (of Quenelles) gives a unit the blessing of the lady (ward save) the item can be activated once per game, so it really is up to the player when the decide to use the item, for me it is a fairly no brainer for inclusion of the list, with so many points going to be spent on infantry I need at least one of the units to be able to hold something up and this item gives them a higher chance of doing so.

BSB - His Virtue gives all peasants within 12" his leadership value (8) plus all the usual abilities of a Battle Standard Bearer, Grail vow gives him Magic Attacks and he always starts the game with the lady's ward save. I need to boost his save up a little so he has the Enchanted Shield to boost his save to 3+

Hammer, This unit needs to be larger then my typical lance as I am likely to need these through a couple of combats. Typically my lances are small so that I can include more units on the table. But as I have already said I need a bigger unit that has the bodies to be able to last a bit longer. Standard of Discipline goes into the unit as they will be joined by the Lord as he cannot join any other units due to the Knightly Vow. Since the lord is set up to provide me with ASF, HKB attacks at WS10 he can take on Lords, Heroes, Monsters as well as Rank and File. The Lance is their to provide him CR through the Banner and having 4 ranks. Also I do have a slight chance of the Knights/Horses plinking a few wounds onto units so the Lord delivery system can provide a couple of wounds per turn. This unit is also the reason why I include the Lore fo Life and Lore of Beasts rather than Heavens. I hope for Amber spear or Curse of Anraheir and have the signiture to fall back on.

Supporting Units, Grail Knights attract a lot of attention typically from Magic, since they already start the game with a ward save I include a Damsel to give them Magical Resistance. Big units of Grail knights perform wonders as a hammer of their own BUT I prefer to keep them small to either tackle something that I do not want my KoTR to get involved in (Hexwraiths) or to get a Flank charge in a combat with the KoTR bus.

Pegasus Knights are included for Warmachine Hunting, Suicidal Charges on Mages ect ect and also can act as a further CR generator by getting into an opponents flank/rear whichever would grant me the less attacks back onto the unit.

Flaming Attacks & Missile Fire, yes please I will have a grand total of 64 please, thank you very much. a 5point upgrade for a unit of missile troops to give them all flaming shooting attacks. Great. Perfect for a multitude of tasks, my favourite being building clearance.

Templates - Trebuchets are my favourite warmachine and in my opinion compete with Doom Divers as being the best in the game, no real tactics for this just aim and hope it hits (I don't call them Scatterpults for nothing)

General Tactics

I favour a mix between a Castle Tactic and Refused Flank, both of these tactics work well with the Bretonnians. the army is split into two seperate 'groups' the Castle and the Flankers

Castle
-M@A with Level 4
-M@A with BSB
-Peasant Bowmen
-More Peasant Bowmen
-Trebuchet
-Trebuchet

these deploy protecting my warmachines, typically somewhere with a nice fire zone where the enemy has to manouver between two pieces of terrain. Men at Arms have the inglorious position of holding the line with the archer blocks taking each flank thanks to their defended obstances.

Flank
-KoTR
-Grail Knights
-Pegasus Knights
-Skirmishing Peasant

This group starts on the opposite side of the board to my castle and their role is to try and get as many units lined up against them as possible in deployment so that whent they switch flank, I have isolated a hoppefully large amount of my opponents units. Remember the terrain that I hoped would cause a bottle neck in my castle's fire zone? That's where the Skirmishing Bowmen head to try and entice a charge and force a enemy block to lose steadfast. Once that's done I will hit it withtwo units of Heavy Cav and hope that I break it fast.

Really nice list bro, maybe for me a few too many archers, as running 64 makes you look like a wood elf that couldn't afford treekin, lol but the strategy behind it supports it well. I think that possibly with this list you could survive without the grail knights and get a few more kotr, or pegasus though they lack the magical attacks. Good thing is though that theres nothing else really worth sinking alot of fire into other thank skirmishing peasants, since 5 grail knights due to the point total and being joined by a character present a tastey target, and not completely unfathomable to kill, though they will be resistant to death with the ward save and magic resistance as well as the beefy armour.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire

Less bowmen and more knights, how do you run your proud men-at-arms anyway?

Does crown of command on prophetess really help?

Stubbirn unit on leadership 8 with re roll not reliant on general, it really does help as I can kit out my lord for taking out high point monsters.

Test game with new list is not successful at the moment, am leaning towards making a horde of men at arms to keep the attacks on prophetess to a minimum. 60 sounds good.

Remaining points back into flaming archers

updated list to follow
