Hey quick question from your friendly neighborhood moron.

If at the start of a turn Unit A (Let's say Ork Boyz) are locked in combat with unit B (Scarabs) can unit A assault a different unit if the unit of scarabs is wiped out in the shooting phase? In this case it was by a vehicle explosion.

As long as they are not already locked in combat when they go to declare the charge, and they abide by the rest of the restrictions on P.20, they are free to charge.

I can't see why they would as they didn't win the combat per se.

Consolidation happens in the Fight Sub-phase, as noted by the rules on P.27 taken in context.
