Bonjour one and all,

I'm organising a metal gig in Leeds, UK, for mid December, and have created a facebook page for it. Whether you're local or not, and whether you can make the gig or not, I'd really appreciate it if you could go along and give it a like. http://www.facebook.com/ForTheLoveOfRay

The gig's in aid of a local family that recently lost their dad / husband to leukemia after a 3 year battle, multiple treatments and radio therapy sessions, which actually made life harder for him and his family, as they lowered his immune system and left him vulnerable to secondary infections. Some friends and I are looking to find ways to help support his family after his passing, and I've decided to run this gig as my way of getting something together for them. All ticket and door sales would go to the family, either for Christmas presents, a memorial or for them to donate to a charity of their choice.

Today's ground zero for me on setting this thing up, I'm waiting on responses from a couple of venues on their availability, and once I have this I'll be able to confirm the line up. So far I've got 5 potentials though this could swing on the date. The page will be updated with a line up as it becomes available.

So yeah, that's it really, I'm whoring for likes at the moment! If anyone is in the area and would be interested in coming down, reply to this message, post something on the page, it's all good.

I may also have secured (still pending confirmation) attendance from Kerrang! magazine for reviews and promotional support. I'm writing off to Rocksound mag too. The hope is that getting some press coverage for the bands will go some way to making up for the fact that the proceeds will be donated to the family, and not the bands own pockets.

Other plans include getting the gig set in The Cockpit (for those that don't know it's Leeds' best metal venue, with a stage and room capable of holding 500 people) and approaching D'Addario / Evans (guitar strings and drum skins company respectively) for sponsorship. I'm hoping that they'll make a cash donation to The Cockpit that will enable me to offer a free drink with every ticket to really give people some bng for their buck.

So that's that for now, I'll keep updating this thread with updates in the hope that I can generate some further interest, get some more likes and help to spread the word!

I've set up a just giving page (linked on facebook and Twitter) which people can donate to using PayPal, I'll look at a PayPal charity page though I don't want eggs is too many baskets, even though the more I have out there increases the chances of raising more donations...

So something for me to think about.

Also had verbal confirmation from the omega particle (face shredding metal band from Salford), just working through the difficulties faced in getting band's confirmed and the logistics of it all sorted!

Sponsorship request from "The Heineken Family", so Fosters, Strongbow, Bulmers... god knows how many others...

I really want to find one more MASSIVE (or atleast, much bigger and very much out there) band to headline this, so have emailed The Haarp Machine & Monuments asking them to play as the headline band.

Also considering getting some stalls set up through the Princes Trust who I've done work with before, I can think of a cake stand (stunning stuff) and some kind of fair trade clothing / jewellery stall too. Not 100% on that yet though it could add that extra something nice to the gig.

The gigs now advertised on last.fm and a couple of others, and I have requested promo help from the BBC.

Could really do with peoples help in growing the Facebook audience, so please do go along to www.facebook.com/fortheloveofray - like the page, tell your friends, even if you can't make it, hell, even if you'r not in this country! MERRY GIG-MAS ONE AND ALL!!!!

Well, that was a success. I don't have the final amount raised yet, though I'm confident that we've just over achieved my £500 target. I'll be totalling the amount raised tomorrow.

Knew the night was off to a good start when the first band had a circle pit and bloody noses by their 5th song.

Next one will be for Martin House, though I need to recharge my batteries first.
