This has probably been done before, but I'm thinking of running an all empire cavalry force based on the knights panther.

What with the cheapness and quality of Fireforge knights, it's an attractive possibility.

Anyway, I'm looking for tips on army selection and tactics. My thanks to anybody who contributes.

Another anyway, here's my rundown of the options.

Lord choices would be the grandmaster and/or mounted wizard lord. Was thinking lore of life for the bonuses.

Hero choices would be same again and obviously a BSB would feature.

Troop choices: Here's where it gets interesting. Lances or great weapons? I'm not sure.

Special: Again, pistoliers or outriders. I'm not bothered about pure background i.e would a templar army have gunpowder. I don't want to hamstring myself too much.

Reikguards knights could feature as a more elite Knights panther i.e same rules, but in panther colours. I'm not totally convinced about the new demi knights. They're GW prices, and I could get 2 boxes of fireforge knights for one box of demi knights.

Rare choices: This is where it gets tricky. Are those new giant, wizard chariot things any good?

Tactics: What's the best way to run a formation of knights, and how many ranks should you have?

My opponents will be High Elves, Dark Elves, and Vampire Counts.

The new rares are awesome, one is a bound spell cannon, the other buffs. For knights that aren't bretonnia run 5x2. You can make it pretty good. One thing to watch out for is great weapons, Calvary are expensive as you know (points wise) and with ASL (Great Weapon) So you will be taking casualties and losing points before they get to do anything. Balance it well. Lances are great but only if you charge... Shame we cant give them halberds and call it a day.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire
