I've fielded the heldrake on every list i've played since i bought him and he has always paid himself and most of the time when i get lucky with my invul saves proved to save the day.
The mauler/forge i haven't tried but will try the mauler on an all assault list this next sunday

I have two forgefiends, one already battle tested and one undergoing construction albeigth a rather slow one. I like the models and find them very effective at shooting things to death with massed volume of shots and high strengt ones I migth add.
Against the hordes of Orks & Nids I normaly figth they are great for killing of MC and Nob units.

Nasty Nob on Warbike with Klaw

Wanted to test them for our FLGS, used Stormravens as a proxy.
3 with Baleflamers worked out really good.
Vectorstrike a rhino, flame something else.
Rinse and repeat.

I have played against a Heldrake and a Maulerfiend in 2 games, one as a Necron and the other one as a Tyranid. Both times the Heldrake did extremely well, enough to convince me to buy one for my Chaos army, The baleflamer is juste a great weapon (infantry killer) Also the the fact that the Heldrake can hover make him really flexible and he can be used to torch infantry squads holding objectives late in the game The Maulerfiend faced a Carnifex the first time I face it and he went boom even if he charged... they are not that good against MC's... The second time however he appeared against my Necrons and he blew up a Monolith and obliterated a squad of Necron Warriors who where holding an objective. That 12" movement that ignore difficult terrain is just really good. He's a specialist vehicle hunter and he can be brutal against regular infantry who can't hurt AV12. He will be on my next Chaos list too...

As with all walkers fighting a MC or another walker with high I is a death sentence, maybe a little less for the mauler/defiler since both are daemons and can attempt to save the penetrating hit's they'll be surely taking

I played with the the heldrake a couple of times, the beauty of it is that even though it doesn't pack a lot of power ( not a glass cannon), its defence makes it one of the best as units as it sticks around to kill flyers generally for a decent to long period of time.

I've played a few games with them so far. While it's still relatively early, my gut suspicions have generally been confirmed that triple digit cost AV12 walkers have the lifespan of a fruitfly in 6E.
It's not that they're objectively bad, but Hull Points make them, along with Dreads and Defilers, way too easy to kill. When you're tossing autocannon and krak missiles around, or going to the really big things like railguns, a 175pt Forgefiend is only marginally more survivable than a 31pt Terminator.
The Heldrake has the advantage of being hit only on 6's by almost everything and able to appear where it wants, so is much better at sticking around.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |
