So, it looks as if there's going to be a Mass Effect Trilogy bundle for the PS3, released one day before my birthday!

http://www.gamezone.com/products/mass-effect-3/news/mass-effect-trilogy-coming-to-ps3-on-december-4-2012

I never played the game before, but I'm certainly tempted now - especially as this will be the first time PS3 owners will be able to play ME1.

Did it make the translation to the PS3 intact and OK?

Looks like we'll have to download the 'extended ending' separately - did that 'help' with the issues many had with the series wrap up? (No spoilers please!)

What's the final word on this series - worth picking up or not?

Thanks!

Gathering the Informations.

Definitely!

Bear in mind that the "extended ending" is available for free, and certainly did help with the issues that many had with the series wrap up.

Of course there are those who would still decry it as a band-aid on a bleeding jugular, but that's no different than anything else that people have invested time and a little bit of themselves into a deep universe.

Oh, and the jump from ME1 to ME2/3 will be a bit jarring. The game went from being a bit cluttery (I do not ever remember past the first act of the game having inventory room) to being a more "action" oriented game rather than an inventory micromanagement system.

But it, you will enjoy the game ( can't be sure for ending but hey - that's only 0.1% of the entire game ).

But it, Mass Effect if one ofthe most popular RPG games in the last several years.

The universe has many horrors yet to throw at us. This is not the end of our struggle. This is just the beginning of our crusade to save Humanity. Be faithful! Be strong! Be vigilant!

I would happily say buy it. However, all I will say is play it without the extended cut DLC to see how bad it was compared to the "proper" ending.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

The ending is still just as terrible. The concept itself is absolutely ridiculous.

My advice? Buy it and play them pretty quickly, one after another. I don't mean rush through them - don't. Do every sidequest, but play them one after another ASAP.

Enjoy ME2 as much as possible. The best game of the series by far.

But does anyone else feel that the weapons in ME2 were a step backward - in customisation at least.

ME weapons you could customise barrels, sights, etc to customise a weapon to suit your playstyle. Need rate of fire to make up for your lack of accuracy, make sure you had the mod that cooled the barrel and allowed you to shoot for longer before the weapon shut down due to the heat. Later in the game you could get a weapon that allowed you to take that plus a damage increase so you got a weapon that shut down as fast as an unmodded one, but did a lot more damage. Or you could mod for damage from the start if you were accurate enough by yourself, then either double up on the damage, or increase the accuracy later in the game.

ME2 you were just stuck in finding different variants of the weapon types and picking up a single 'unique' weapon at one point in the game.

At least the armour retained more customisation options, and in ME2 you actually got to see them on your character.

If I keep having trouble with my PC and end up getting a second-hand PS3, this will be one of only 2 series that will be definately included in my collection.

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." Do it Alpharius, they are a GREAT set of games! Probably my favourite series ever actually...

The first is very different to the other 2 in terms of playstyle, but its not a bad thing...

All this talk of how ME1 is different and such... should I just skip to ME2 then?

That's what we PS3 owners had to do until now anyway...

No.

ME1 set the stage for ME2 and 3, with the story being important.

I think the PS3 version of ME2 has a summary video of the story from ME1...

Agree with Kan, play ME1, the story is the most important bit and a short intro video wont do it justice...

That's actually a free DLC for ME2 called "Mass Effect: Genesis".

It allows you to make the important choices from Mass Effect 1, but be warned...some of the choices made via "Genesis" will interact with each other in rather unexpected ways.
They're supposedly planning a "Genesis" as well for ME3 for the Wii-U.

Will this bundle include all the DLC that came out for the games?

My understanding is that it will for ME1+2, but not 3.

For 3, you'll want to pick up the Extended Cut(free) as soon as possible.
Mass Effect 3: Leviathan was a fantastic addition as well.
No verdict yet on Mass Effect 3: Omega, but I'll give one when I get it on the 27th of this month.

Nope! ME1 is actually the best game of the series and the only real RPG. The other two are cover shooters with everything else dumbed way down. If you ever played Knights of the Old Republic, ME1 was in that tradition. See also, the difference between Dragon Age:Origins and Dragon Age II. If you only have a PS3, the best reason to get this bundle is to finally play ME1 on the PS3. I bought my 360 just to play ME1 (this was before ME2 came out) and I was not disappointed.

Each game has it's strengths and weaknessees but definately don't skip anything. I'd say that bundle is a must buy.

ME1 is the truest RPG of them, ME2+3 was just as fun, just different. If you havent played any of them it is a worthy purchase. I have ME1 and 2 for xbox but plan to get the bundle for ps3. Im in the same boat as Manchu, bought an xbox for a few select games, ME1 being one of them.
