Hello, I recently got into 40k and loved the look and concept of the tau so much I bought an ebay army. I played a few games with allied players to help me into the game, but now I'm trying to strike out on my own. My local gaming store seams to have mostly type units (SM and Necrons). So I'm trying to build up an army that can deal with that. This is what I've come up with so far:

HQ
Shas'el - PR, MP, MT, 2x shield, hw-bsf, stimulant injector (<- to be attached to 2 man crisis team)

ELITE
Crisis Team - 3x - team lead, PR, MP, MT, 2x shield drone, hw-bsf
Crisis Team - 2xPR, MP, MT

Troop
Fire Warrior - 9x - 'ui, BSF, 2x shield drones, 2x emp
Fire Warrior - 9x - 'ui, BSF, 2x shield drones, 2x emp
Fire Warrior - 8x - 'ui, BSF, 2x shield drones, 2x emp

Fast Attack
Tetra - TA, bsf, sensor spline
Tetra - TA, bsf, sensor spline

Heavy Support
Hammerhead - railgun, burst cannon, d-pod, MT, TL
Broadside - 3x - Teamlead, 2x shield drone, TL, hw-bsf, TL (on two of them)

Ageis Defense - quad cannon

Total: 1501

I see that people tend to be fans of stealth suits, I want to love them (my ebay army came with 9, plus 6 sniper drones and shadowsun) but are they a useful choice in this context? Would devilfish and/or seeker missile support be worth finding room for? Would I benefit from a pair of remora drones (instead of the Ageis Defense line)?

Thanks for the input.

Solid list. Some thoughts I have, I don't really see people put shield drones on FWs. You get the 4++ invulnerable from the shield drones, but they are still toughness 3 with a 4+ save.

I would drop them and the emps off of one squad, that would give you enough points to take one more FW for 3 squads of 9 and add a DF with DP to one of the squads to move up to take late game objectives.

I don't have any experience with remora drones so I can't help you there!

Again, great first list!

Thanks for the feedback, tried it last night against a Necron/Ork army. By the end of turn 6 only the devilfish was left on the table (other guy had 4 units at half or less strength left

First, you CANT take 2 EMP's per squad, its all or nothing. (the 'ui is the exempt, as you can take them as wargear for him)

Second-shield drones add nothing to FW teams.

Taking these off grants you 108 points, enough to step up your FW teams to 12 man squads for far more firepower, and having a bit to spare for upgrading the hammerhead or something.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

If your going forge world then take advantage of the hammer head turrets.
You have 3 rail guns on the broadsides which should be enough for most matches this size. the Hammerheads single shot has a way of letting you down
Maybe try out the plasma cannon turret from forge world. Excellent for clearing MEQS.
The pieplate is over rated unless your going against hordes a lot.
For the same price as a ion cannon you can get a s6 ap3 heavy 4 twinlinkd marine pulverizer.

Also Tetra marker lights wont benefit from bsf whatsoever as you cant take cover saves against marker lights as far as i know.

BoomWolf - If I take EMP for the entire squad, when I attack a vehicle do I get to use all of those grenades or does only one model get to use it? (Also I assume those don't count as haywire grenades)A unit of 12 firewarriors mounted in a devilfish with emp grenades sounds like it could be a decent anti vehicle blob in a pinch (like trying to grab an objective on turn 5).

Messy0 - I like the idea of slaughtering marines, but my most frequent opponent is my necron friend, and that pieplate is essential for taking out those damn scarabs, they go right for my broadside team to tarpit them in CQC for several turns (also in 2 rounds of shooting the broadsides failed to kill a 4 hp armor 13 vehicle sitting right in front of them. Maybe a unit of Ork boyz would be a good addition to bubble wrap the broadsides...

Thanks again for the feedback.
