So I'm thinking of getting some allies for my Tau force. I really want to add some horde units that don't suck like kroot. And I'm thinking Imperial Guard, even though they are not battle brothers.

The reason I think they would work well is because IG can't benefit their own battle brothers anyway. They can only give orders to IG units, and their ICs don't really give out benefits. On the flip side, Tau ICs can't really give support to their allies in any real way. The only lose would be not having markerlight support, but I don't use them very much.

I want to use the Guard as objective holders, and for the extra lascannons and possibly a leman russ or two. What does everyone else think?

I'm not sure if I'd take IG for lascannons. IG can give access to blast templates, flyers, and veteran squads with great weapon options.

Tau could make good use of a mobilized IG force, but I think a static blob or tank force would do more to get in the way.

Honestly I wouldn't ally with IG for Tau. What do they have that you want/need.

Tau has arguably the best vehicles right now behind an Aegis with disruption pods and moving 1".

I'd just run a Tau gunline with Kroot bubblewrap and hope you roll some 4's.

Other than that, possibly ally in Necrons for Lord+CCB, 2troop+NIghtScythe, DoomScythe.

That gives 3 flyers and a Command Barge. Their troops are scoring for you as well.

I'm not interested in getting flyers. I want a blob unit that is actually worth a damn, unlike kroot. Getting just a CCS and 2 blobs would give me plenty of meat shield, and they are helpful with the thanks of orders.

I find more guns that actually kill stuff effectifly do a better job at keeping nasties away then blobs of meat now with 6th taking casualties from the front, but that's just me.

Honesly, I would only ally with IG for either fliers, artillery, or both...
