Test game battle report as promised. He had: 2 flying nuns with chainsaws 4 units of sisters in rhinos with various weapons inquisitor callidus 2 units of seraphim 2 exorcists Every unit that can has the book. I let him pick which ever mission he thought would be most beneficial to him (it was a test game). The board had about 6 buildings and various other, smaller terrain. He set up in the corner, castle style. I won the roll and choose to go second. So first turn he did nothing. Second turn his callidus comes in. He hides her behind his rhino wall. He popped smoke on all of his vehiles. Bottom of 2 I get Tiggy, a terminator squad, and two speeders. I drop tiggy so that he'll be able fury some rhinos, but out of rapid fire range of all but one unit after it moves. My terminators scatter so that they have no shots (my pod and a building blocks them). My speeders scatter right into his los. My shooting does nothing. Top of 3 he charges 2 rhinos toward tiggy, disembarks from one, and rapid fires 5 of tiggies buddies off the board. The seraphim move up and kill one speeder, an exorcist kills another. Bottom of 3 I get everything but a tac squad. I drop so that I have shots on ever rhino that still has passengers. My dread drops right in his face, flames and shoots 5 of 8 seraphim. All of the rest of my shooting does absolutely nothing but shake a rhino. This will be bad. Tiggy assaults the squad of sisters, and foolishly uses his force weapon, instead of smacking them with his bolt pistol. They're wiped out. I fury the inquisitor to death. Top of 4 he sends another rhino unit to deal with my other command squad, the 3 seraphim to deal with tiggy, his callidus to deal with a tac squad, and a 2 meltagun sisters squad to deal with the dread. If the dread lives he's got serious problem. He uses his two empty rhinos to block off a terminator unit of mine, so it can't walk into hth with anything. I take almost no loses from his shooting. The dread is only stunned (go venerable!). But he sends in a chainsaw nun on her own, who gets the 2+ inv. who carves him up. He sends in another chainsaw nun to hold up tiggy. She wiffs round after round and only kills one model. But she hold them up. Bottom of 4 I get my last tac squad. I drop this to meltagun one of the rhinos blocking up my terminators. The only manage to immobilize it. I shoot the last 3 seraphim off the board from the 1st squad, then charge a sisters unit with my terminator command squad, but this time I turn the fists off. But they still die. So I must consolidate into the tiggy combat to avoid eating two exorcists. (this combat is tiggy, now the terminators, vs. 2 chainsaw sisters) The 5 man tac squad fighting the calidus still lives. They even put a wound on her. Top of 5 he sense the 3rd sisters squad to deal with the tac squad that popped in last turn. They shoot 3 off the board. He sends seraphim to deal with one terminator squad. They get some shooting help from an exorcist and manage to kill 3. This turn I get lucky and one of the chainsaw nuns die, but she only has 2 wounds left when she does. His chainsaw girl instakills my terminator librarian. So he does 3. Tiggy breaks. Bottom of 5 tiggy can't rally and falls back 12 more inches. I Shoot and charge sisters squad 3, killing 4. Nothing else ever dies over there. I shoot and charge his last unit of seraphim, getting them down to 3. But he hits and runs out, to keep tiggy from rallying. Top of 6 he shoots tiggy, wiffs on the terminators, but the callidus manages to finally finish off the last of that tac squad it's been fighting since turn 3. It goes after my terminators fighting the last chainsaw nun, but does nothing. He does get LOS with both exorcists on my 2 man terminator squad (that was left high and dry when the seraphim jumped out). But only kills one. Bottom of 6 tiggy runs off the board. I shoot the last of the seraphim. I also pop an exorcist. So I've got two full terminator squads, half a terminator squad, and half a tac squad. He's got a chainsaw nun, two sisters squads, an exorcist, 3.5 rhinos, and half a calidus. Tie. He played it very well, and I don't know how he could have played it better. I should have made that first turn drop so that he could shoot nothing, then have them come out when they're help came the next turn. That was a huge mistake. I knew it probably wouldn't be a good move, but it was a test game, so it's often better to try things that you wouldn't normally do. We'll try it again soon, but this time a mission that doesn't favor him so much and we'll see if dropping further away doesn't work.

While I was reading the batrep it suprised me that you did this. I was expecting you to marshall your forces until turn three and concentrate fire on a flank while using LOS to limit his return fire. But like you said, it's a test game. Nice battle report by the way. Any commentary on the psychic powers and the Sister's special abilities?

Interesting. So he gave a you a good run for your money, would you say?
Yeah, I'm interested in hearing if you used your psychic powers.
He'd have been better off dropping the =I= and assassin and spending the 160pts on a small seraphim squad again....you could buy 6 serpahim, 2 flamers, and vet status for that.

My psychic powers did nothing except plink the inquisitor, so they weren't really a factor. And as I said, I'm sure I would have played it differently in a tournament game. One thing I'm finding is that tiggy's squad really isn't all that great. I may replace it with another terminator command squad, or a regular terminator squad and another dread (though that will mean I'll need to use traits).

He's a very solid player. He beats me in fantasy more than I beat him. We've only played 2 40k games though, but he doesn't lose much at that against other players. The inquisitor and assassin are definitely less effective against me, but this is his take all comers list. But as you predicted, sisters were a tough matchup. But we'll see next time. Now I just need to decide if I want to change the list.

*shrug* It thats what he takes, thats what he takes. Personally more sisters is always a goodthing. Its another faith point as well......
You understand how the sisters aura of faith works, right? I fyou FoD or that draw a line power, and catch the =I, the assassin, and a sisters unit in the area effect, and he rolls 5+, it doesnt affect anyone. Doesnt matter what order the line is drawn.
General consensus is sisters isa powerful list in the right hand. Only problem is the expense of an all metal army is a draw back.
He might want to consider a blessed weapon in one cannoness....

Are sisters a decent challenge for podders?

Try an omega one, and you going first. Then the same mission omega with him going first.

It was gamma. Omega should be a good test as well, but again, I'll end up deepstriking where he can't rapid fire me on the turn he comes in and make him eat the assault cannons.

If you're in range to use assualt cannons, their in range to use bolters. DG is great for rapid fire, but thats not the only use for it.

Well, just so long as I can get them to step into my 24" first, I'm probably fine. And since I move and shoot, that's generally what's going to happen. Omega definitely has more room for "error", but other missions help me greatly.

I was the sister's player against Ed's Pods. Just a few comments from this side.
In response to removing the callidus for more seraphim. Since my list is a tourney list, she is necessary, because she gives me a way to deal with indirect ordanance, as well as acts as a useful HTH edge. In this game if she comes in before pods start to drop, she's pretty useless. However, if she comes in after 1 round of pods, she can do a lot of damage. Flaming 5 termies with an AP1 flamer, then assaulting with a no save weapon is very useful, when we're playing a game of "you can't catch me."
As for blessed weapon vs eviscerator. I will always choose the evi over the blessed weapon. First, the evi allows you to insta kill marine characters which is VERY important. Otherwise marine characters give you a lot of trouble. Second, vehicles (especially dreds) are somewhat of a problem for sisters. The 2d6 armor pen on the evi is invaluable in giving you that edge. The blessed weapon is not strong enough to reliably do damage against a vehicle. While I don't rely on the evi to blow up vehicles, it is very nice to have. Moreover, stiking at initiative with the BW is not a big deal, because you're only I4.
There were two big mistakes I made during the game. The first was on turn 3 when I had a choice between shooting Tiggy's squad of 4 guys (tiggy had 2 wounds on him) and 5 termies. I chose to shoot the 5 termies. In hindsight it would have been MUCH better to shoot Tiggy, because my AP1 shots actually kill him outright, and I remove both tiggy, and a powerfist which are major HTH threats. Killing 1 or 2 termies does not really do much for me, whereas finishing off that squad helps a lot!
Second, the exorcist I lost on the last turn was becuase I got greedy. I showed him rear armor in order to get LoS. I had 2 exorcists shooting at 2 termies. You'd think I could kill both but of course I didn't. That cost me 270 points (including mission points) which would have been enough to give me a win. Of course both of us could have made other changes which would have tipped the game in our favor, but this is just a glaring mistake that should never have been made.
The big hole in my army list is the lack of 3 exorcists. If Ed wants to play the avoidance game and drop at a distance, having 3 exorcists would be invaluable. I could sit back and shoot him and force him to come within 24 inches. Once he moves in to shoot, he has 1 turn to pop the rhinos before they are coming to get him. In the end I would say that sisters vs. podders comes down to a VERY intense game, where 1 mistake could mean losing the game.
The changes I might make to my list in general would be to find points to master craft the cannoness' evi's as several times wiffing proved to be a big problem. I would try to add power weapons to the seraphim VSS just so they have some sort of threat against termies, and finally I would add a mantel of ophelia (ignore first insta kill), so that one cannoness could get more daring vs. powerfists/dreads etc.
If anyone has any other questions about the game or my list.. Let me know

The mantle is GREAT! My martyr cannoness always has it as the just in case, she gets left out in the wind.....
As for evisorator: inferno pistols and meltaguns do the same with less risk.Or an exorcist volly. But thats just me. I use the cannoness w/ blessed weapon to go after other squads rather than characters.
I hear you on 3 exorcists. I had 2 and a ret squad with Hbolters last night, and frankly the Hbolters didnt have much to do. Kind of a waste there.
AS for the assassin, *shrug* to each there own. I really could have used a 3rd seraphim squad last night.....

I've been jumping around from sisters to marines to 'nids the last few months (trying to get everything painted!), so I might be wrong, but aren't cannoness' S3 &T3? If so, how does the Evi. insta-kill a marine character? At the most she would only be S6 vs. the marines standard T4. I hope am wrong, cause that would really come in handy.
Congrats on a great game, both of you. One more thing, I'm kinda new to these boards, so Mauleed, what is this marine list everyone keeps refering to with your name? You can PM me to keep from clogging up the bat-rep thread.

Evisator acts as a chainfist, so it will double her strength to 6. However, there is an act of faith which boosts your Strength by +2. Which would make her strength 8, which will instantkill a marine character....

I've had a bunch of different marine lists that I've "popularized", so the actual "Mauleed Marines" or "Ultramauleens" (I really like that one) are shooty vanilla marines. They are not what I used here. This is a drop pod list that I mostly stole from a fellow named Jeff Chau (one of the Adepticon Organizer) because it seems so intersting to play (and nasty). My take on it is: Tiggy, 9 man command squad, 2 meltas, vet with fist, plasma pistol, teleport homer in a pod librarian in terminator armor, fury, fear, 4 man command squad with 2 asscannons, chainfist, furious charge, in a pod venerable dread with heavy flamer in a pod 2X5 terminators with 2 asscannons and a chainfist 2X5 tac marines with melta in a pod 2 tornados

Now that's a list that would make for an interesting game.
Basically, it would boil down to each one of us dropping entire squads of the other person's army each turn. A single disintigrator salvo would wipe out about 300 points of your army in one turn. Then again, you could get lucky drops where I couldn't hide the Ravagers. I would probably WWP against this list, which would make it even more interesting, because then it comes down to who gets the lucky reserve rolls.
Too bad you live so far...I think it'd be a pretty good game.

Carmen: The list definitely has an experation date. People will figure out how to play against it then it won't work. Xtapl: This is a take all comers list, so unless I caught you on an odd day, no WWP for you. Omega would help you greatly, since it would make sure you're ravagers got to fire at least once, but I'd do my best to make sure that didn't happen. But I agree it would be a fantastic game. ....which is what I like about this list: you can't play it like a moron or have a run of bad luck and win. Everything is an important choice.

We say that all the time. But we're talking about fantasy (3 of our group went to last year's fantasy GT in Chicago and all 3 placed in the top 10). Honestly, I'd think that right now the Chicago area is where the best 40k is.

Well, I use a Callidus in my Daemonhunters army, and a primary target for her is indirect ordnance.
You can use 'A word in your ear' to move something that fires indirect into the open so you can target it with direct fire weapons. At a recent Tournament, my Calidus accounted for two Defilers that were hiding out behind terrain this way.
A Calidus's neural shredder can actually damage and destroy open topped vehicles (Basilisk for instance) because, while it only rolls a d3 on the damage table, open topped adds 1 to the roll and allows it to get 2 rolls.
