I would like to get ideas for an alternate CSM heldrake. I keep looking on ebay for a scifi model or military model that I could convert into a heldrake or a helltalon/blade. I don't want to be like a dragon but more like a manned flier. I would be willing to spend around 25-30$ for the model. So if your on ebay or know of any models i can use please let me know. Any help would be welcome, thanks. A few of the things i have been looking at, the only thing that puts me off is the scale. I don't think thats necessarily true judging from the prices on some of the scifi models on ebay.

Maybe a model of a TIE Interceptor could be cut and reworked to make what you need? I've been planning to scratchbuild my own hellblade, so I might try that myself.

LOL I've seen pictures. Its enough to tell me I don't like it, not to mention the price is a little steep IMO. The puff the magic warp dragon look doesn't do it for me. The tie panels had crossed my mind, also the shuttle tydiron, and some strange starwars comic ship, not sure of the name xor something or other had some panels that might be reworked. I ended up buying 2 for 20$ including shipping. The thing that pushed the Virago over the top for me was it comes with a flight stand that is a big star that I will cut some of the points off and make it a chaos star.
Does anyone know if you can buy plasticard from hobby lobby?

No problem with using it as a counts-as in friendly play, but tournaments and GW stores will probably tell you no on the counts-as.

I have yet to play a 6th ed game. I moved to the country about a year ago and there isn't much in the way of 40k out here. One flgs but I'm not its biggest fan. So thats not an issue, and I'm not much of a tourney player.

Didn't want to spend $75, have a Death Guard army, so I made myself a fly of nurgle. The body is a milk jug and its covered with hot glue, green stuff, bitz, spikes, wings, and nurgle icons, mounted on a flying base and stand. It actually looks pretty sweet. I guess that doesn't help if you don't play nurgle though...

My plan is to build a flying daemon engine, with daemon flesh making up manta-ray type wings in a similar style to the screamers of tzeentch. But more mechanical, will have jet air intakes where the gills would be.
how big did those star wars models turn out to be? That seems like a great deal! I demand pics.

I would say start off with the old Necron Spyder body (at least the claws are dead ringers):
Cut 3 long right angle triangles 2/3rds the size of the prior one and make a matching set for the other side.
Stick some tubes on the back for jets and the dragon head may be more challenging (spare head from the other new beast?) but that pretty much captures this weird spindly model.
I will buy it but those overlapping wings will either be glued together or at least pinned, I cringed each time I touched the silly thing.

I have a good but expensive idea that should be GW legal. Start with a Nurgle Blight Drone, cut off the weird rectum thing and replace it with the Talos tail (tweak at will) give it a head and neck, and replace the turbines with either Zombie Dragon or Hive Tyrant wings.

That will be cool but you've gone and spent a lot. I was looking for a cheaper way to convert one. Would like to see it when its finished though.
This thread was to help me find mil/sci fi models from ebay. I know i could take a carmine dragon from FW and mix it with a reaver titan and make x, but I was looking for people to find kits off ebay. I don't care if its GW/tourney legal as I will only play friendly games.
Next up will be to make either a predator tank or a land raider out of military kits.
