On the commander you have to hardwire the MT. As far as the bodyguards go, for 10 points more than a normal suit you get +1 to WS and the ability to use special issue equipment. Since you are not using any special issue stuff with them, you can take them as an elite and have the Shas'el join them. With the extra points you can beef up your FW squads by another Tau each.

What are you planning on facing with this list? You should be able to handle any light vehicles with the Suits and any heavy vehicles with the Broadsides. On the one broadside it is a not twin linked smart missiles just a single SMS.

That is all I got. Again, the way you outfit suits depends on what you are facing.

Thanks for the feed back I'm going against dark eldar
Mostly T 4 so I think my fire warriors are wounding on 2+ so I like the idea of more Fire warriors, I'm mostly worried about being stuck in close combat so the bodyguards +1 i and ws would help. Any more advise on that would be great

They will still hit after anything in the DE codex and the 1 point of weapon skill makes a negligible difference.

One of the things you have to accept with Tau is that you will lose any combats, you just have to make sure you lose them on the opponents turn so you can shoot them to smithereens on yours!

Good luck and be sure to ask any questions you have in the tactics section! I believe there is a rather long Tau Tactica thread going on still...

If you want to kit your list against DE, I would almost advice on dropping one broadside.

Railguns are great, but DE do not have that much heavy armor (if not all), so you could easily drop one for a Firestorm suit or a pair.

And take BSF with the commander. You want to get his light vehicles out as fast as possible so you don't want NF to hinder you. Every DE unit has Night Vision and will benefit from the night fighting immensely. Remember that first turn is NF on a 4+.

Also remember that DE have a thing for their Dark Lances, which will insta-kill your suits in a second. BS4, Str 8 and ignores armor. They are expensive, so it might not be a problem right now, but do take care when facing any Eldar.

Anyways, happy DE hunting :3

I should probably point out that his Shas 'El beat my Archon in a challenge match... my venom blade couldn't get past that damned 3+ save, and I'm not as good at rolling 4+ for ghost plate armour as I'd hoped!

Well, that does sound rather cinematic!

Just a lot! My jaw took the express train to the floor!

I truly thought it was in the bag, I had turn 1, drugs gave me a 3d6" (best result) run, I had the most attacks, wounded on a 2+, high initiative...

We drew on the first round of combat by causing 1 wound each, he made all his saves on turn 2, and I failed all of mine. Gutted doesn't quite describe it. As if I lost to the bloody fish.

Against DE, I would swap at least one if not both deathrains to Firestorms (BC, MP,MultiTracker) so you get enough shots to make over watch count for something. Or swap the Target array out on the Deathrains for a Flamer. Twinlink is generally good enough with out the TA.

You can also save some points for upgrades by using elite suits instead of Bodyguards. That would save enough points to upgrade the Deathrains and do a couple team leader upgrades to get BSF on a couple of units.

Also since one else pointed it out, the MultiTrack on the HQ needs to be a Hardwire multitracker as you can't have 4 suits hard points.
