I'm very new to Warhammer Fantasy and would like to now what is a good start for a Warriors of Chaos army. I have no idea what to look for and seeing the new models has given me inspiration to play. Thanks, dunno point cost wise anything so really a good starter army would be nice.

You know Warhammer is getting to real when you being using 40K swears, for example "fug" and "Emperors Hairy Arse!" When writing this the word arse was not recognized, well done. |

I'm confident most Warriors generals will have something like the following in their arsenal:
- a few characters; Warriors are great, in that their wizards wear armour like their combat-characters, so you can use them interchangeably.
- plenty of Warriors. In a typical game (2000pts), somewhere between 30 and 60.
Typical equipment would be halberds and shields. Some lists will include a unit or two with great weapons or just shields.
- some players use big (50+) units of Marauders instead of/in conjunction with Warriors. They almost always have nothing but great weapons. Sometimes, they have shields instead.
- somewhere between 10-20 total of Warhounds and Marauder Horsemen is almost universal, too. Often times, the Horsemen have flails.
- many players will sink a ton of points into Chaos Chosen (30 models or more), but that's more of a one-trick pony thing. They behave the same as Warriors, though. Halberds and shields, always.
- Trolls are good (I usually see a few units of 3, 6, or 9, or one massive unit of 18), as are Chaos Knights (one or two units of 5-10) and the mighty Hellcannon and Warshrine. Most of the other stuff is gimmicky or out-of-date.
As far as painting them goes, units expected to do some fightinging have the mark of Khorne (reds and brass) or Tzeentch (blues and flame-colors). If a unit has no special weapon and is equipped with shields, you'll never see them without the mark of Tzeentch. Khorn-devotees do not use shields.
Expendable units are usually Undivided (black and bronze) or Slaanesh (pink, purple, and black), though you'll occasionally see these on bigger units, if the player is trying to keep them cheap.
Nurgle-marked units are next to non-existent.
Hope that helps!

unit sizes varies from player to player. But 18 warriors or Chosen seems popular.
I run 18 chsen with full cmd and terror banner and favour. That gets you the funky rolling before the game starts where your chosen can start the game with a 4+ Ward save and stubborn (3+ with mark of Tzeentch).
Festus in a unit of nurgle warriors with halberds is interesting.
Khorne or the banner of rage is good.
Just dont rely to heavily on any one god. mix and match to ge thte different benefits.

Thanks, the army itself has what I was looking for. How do Marauders work with the Mark of Tzeentch, is that a good choice for them as I'd be more inclined to give the Warriors themselves the Mark of Khorne just from lore reasons and is Festus a good choice not using Nurgle though but seen him in the White Dwarf battle report and he seemed good.

Infantry Marauders are used in one of two ways:
- Mark of Khorne + great weapon for a super cheap unit of 50 guys with 2 S5 attacks each. These "lumberjacks" are, point for point, probably the best model in the game.
- Mark of Tzeentch + shields for a cheap unit with a 5+ Parry save. These guys can hold down the line like nobody else.
I've never seen Festus without a unit of Nurgle followers. I can't remember off-hand, but that leads me to believe he can only join Nurgle units, as no one would take them, otherwise.
Really, I'd recommend building an army without considering Special Characters at first. Get a feel for what you like and what you don't, then take a look at them.

If this months issue of White Dwarf is to be believed he can, he is a hero and I'm pretty sure in game he's with Warriors with the Mark of Khorne, but I agree with you I'll have a look at unnamed Lords or Heroes first, is splitting marauders viable in a list or is better to have them as a Big Bunch.

Marauder-lumberjacks need a ton of bodies, since they die in handfuls. 50 is the standard size.
Tzeentch tar-pits don't need quite so many, but I still see them in really big numbers. I'd say...no less than 30? That's a guess, though.

Hmmm... I see. The Chaos Battalion seems a good place to start, gives me a little of each and then I could another later in 2013. Seems like I'll being going Fantasy, is there anything different needed for this than with 40K as I have a 40k Army going?
