Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
Hello Dakka friends! I have kind of an odd request but the google machine was not returning any positive results, so here I am!
I am building a pre-heresy Luna Wolves army and they will be based around the time of 63-19 (The first battle in the opening chapters of Horus Rising). The Lunas were attempting to bring the planet into compliance and met resistance from a man who called himself "The Emperor of Mankind". "The False Emperor" had an honor guard called "The Invisibles", they used force field technology as somewhat of a Thermoptic Camo. When Loken finally sees one, they are described as wearing all silver power armor with red crests, and he describes them as being similar to The Emperor's Custodian Guard (Adeptus Custodes). I have an idea that would incorporate a body of one of these fallen "Invisibles" and I am wondering if anyone has modeled them before? I know full well what Custodes look like and even have a friend who is building a custodes army, but wanted to see if anyone had taken a different approach to it and could provide some examples.

"You are like a son and together we have all but conquered the galaxy. Now the time has come for me to retire to Terra. My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

This might sound nonsense but what about these guys (modded to have full chest armor/spears and helms)

Just an idea - I always pictured the 63-19 army sort of like that, proud, medieval armored vets but obviously still human - however with great skill/technology.
I dunno!, just thinking outloud!

well, it did say that they used Lances (Custodes use Force Halberds with bolters mounted to them) so that's fairly close, but it did also state that they were in full power armor.

Uhhm, a pre heresy style "power armor" however
I would doubt highly (for many reasons) that it was Space Marine-esque armor.
(Reasons: they had no access to Forgeworld pattern developments, possibly no STC to work from, no real development in terms of fighting xenos threats, no need to move SM armor onwards, hundreds - if not thousands of years isolated?).
Just a few counterpoints

I have the book in my hand, it doesn't say they wear power armour. The guard are normal humans, none come up to the chins of the Luna Wolves and are weaker.
Their armour is easily penetrated by both bolters and chainswords. It's not power armour.
The Invisibles are only described as wearing bright silver armour with red cloaks, which reminds Loken of the Custodes.

Hmmm ok, I could swear somewhere it said they were wearing powered armor, but I will have to find my copy of Horus Rising and re-read that couple chapters.
