Out of curiosity what has been the impact of Colossals/Gargantuans on the meta? I know they will be rarer at 35 points than lets say 50, but are you seeing them impact your games at all?

In our local playgroup only 2 colossals have been put on the table, kraken and Hyperion. Not the best examples of the huge based models but useful to play with/against. So there hasn't been much of a reaction at the club.

That said, over here in the UK there is a tournament within a 3 hour drive pretty much every weekend and there are quite a few players who take the opportunity to do so. I'm not that crazy but at least once a month I'm travelling to a tournament (two in one weekend this month, 17th&18th). Because of this I'm having to adjust my lists quickly to the latest thing on the scene. So I've dropped Mortenebra from my tournament line-up and changed a few things around to make sure any list I use can kill a colossal.

So now my lists try and deal with, high DEF, high ARM, infantry spam & colossals to varying degrees of success.

We've got a few colossals/Gargantuans here.

They really don't change the game. If anything its preferable to see one accross from you because its a single target.

While they do have twice the hit boxes of most heavies, they only have around the same damage output. So you can easily tie them up with a fraction of their point cost, or charge them with 2 heavies and wreck them pretty good.

Heck, even heavy infantry can do a fair amount of damage. I killed a Mountain King with some Bastions, and 2 of them never even got to attack before he died and just got to kill some Whelps.

Gargantuans are slightly more of a threat then Colossals simply because Fury is a higher damage output mechanic. Especially since there are lots of "Charge for Free" or "boosted attack roll" animi that can get tossed about.

I played with Hyperion last night for the first time. He got killed by a Warhog under Carver's feat. It chewed up alot of infantry with the Starburst cannon and Threshers. He was fun to play but not a game changer. The only Colossal I've seen that really is a game changer is Stormwall but it's killable.

I have played with my Stormwall quite a few times now. I have won every game that is was destroyed. I lost all but one game where it lived. But that one game I won and it lived was my most recent. So I think I broke the streak.

As to the collosal itself I like to stick it right up in the middle and force the opponent to deal with it or try to go around. Neither of which is easy. It definately adds a new dimension to the meta, but I don't see it as game breaking. It is alot of power in one package and casters/support/etc that are good at buffing single models do well with the Stormwall.

OTOH I have played against the circle gargantuan once (his first time playing it) and rolled it up pretty easily with a unit of Bane Thralls and Tartarus.
My friend recently got Hyperion and I have played against him twice. Both times I was pretty much able to avoid him and get the objectives or caster kill. But since he just got him he hasn't played him much, either. I expect both models to be much nastier once the people playing them get alittle experience with them and build a list to use and support them better.
