Hmm, since no one else has piped in, I'll give it a go. Now its been awhile since I've played, so my info might be a little rusty:
Possessed - close combat oriented warband where most of the 'hit' comes from expensive mutants and possessed models. Tends toward lower model count with the heavy hitters, and casualties (and deaths) can quickly cripple this warband. I've yet to see one work well.
Carnival of Chaos - a friend played it in our campaign, and it was decent overall, but the stagecoach was a royal pain in the rear. The rules as they stood didn't adequately explain how it should work and it ended up not being terribly fun to face. Again, mostly a close combat type of band.
Skaven - quick, numerous, and low Leadership. They'll run at the first loud sound, but they can be a powerful combination of firepower (slings are powerful) and combat. They're best used to zip around, gang up on enemy models, and try not to take fear or leadership tests.
Dwarves - low model count, if built with lots of thunderers/crossbows, can be brutal with an engineer. They're also hideously durable, only being knocked out of a game 1 in 6 times due to injury. They are slow, though, and prone to being overwhelmed, but the enemy has to get to you.
Sisters - pretty standard human warband, but tricky with the whips (they used to be a pain in the rear with their 4" range, which I think has been changed), and slings (again, powerful weapons). They can put together a lot of ranged attacks, and their spells are good in support of combats. I'd lean shootier.
I mentioned the slings twice, because in the original (and maybe the current) rules, slings are S3 and roll twice to hit within 12"(?), and once out to 18 (or twice to 9", I'm fuzzy). So if you had a quick band, and could move up, and just about everyone threw two slings, that could quickly be dozens of shots and lots of downed models.
I'm not sure if those rules remain or have been errata'd or faq'd.
So, my opinion:
Possessed - tough to play, close combat
Carnival of Chaos - gimmicky with coach, probably not great for city play with sufficient terrain
Skaven - numbers, hit and run, likely to run (can be powerful)
Dwarves - simple tactics, durable, low model count
Sisters - basic humans, good support spells, use lots of slings
Hope that helps
