There is a two month long bracket tournament starting in January and last till the end of February. The big rule is that once you have submitted a list, that is the list you must use. Allies are allowed, however, I am not using any allies. Played my last list at a tourney this weekend. Minor win, minor loss, and got tabled, in that order. Played against salamander marines, chaos noise marines, and then blood angels. At the local store, there are a ton of space marines, grey knights, blood angels and now csm. I will run into orcs, necrons, and nids too. Maybe another IG list, but, doubt it. So, here is my new list.

CCS w/ plasma gun x3, grenade launcher, carapace armor, krak grenades, and chimera(multi laser, heavy flamer)

Vet squad 1: plasma gun x3, carapace armor, chimera (multi laser, heavy bolter)
Vet squad 2: Melta gun x3, chimera (multi laser, heavy flamer)
Vet squad 3: Melta gun x3: chimera(multi laser, heavy flamer)
Vet squad 4: sniper rifle x3, missile launcher

Storm trooper squad 1: plasma gun x2, plasma pistol
Storm trooper squad 2: Melta gun x2

Scout sentinel w/ auto cannon.

Leman Russ exterminator w/ las cannon, heavy bolter sponsons x2(2 tanks)

Manticore rocket launcher

The sentinel is there because just had a few points left over, mos likely in reserve and outflank. I think two 5 man storm trooper squads will help deal with threats that I can't get too. Let me know what you think.

I'd say drop the ML, Kraks, GL, Plasma Pistol + sentinel (75 pts) and get Harker on the snipers with a LC.

Also, LC on the exterminators? Aren't they are supposed to be bolter boats. If you drop them for HHB then you can give the *maybe* harker vets camo cloaks as well, possibly swapping the snipers for flamers for anti-assault.

In addition to what Blaggard said, I'd also drop the Carapace armor on the Vets and CCS. Its a pretty pricy upgrade, and honestly, there's way too much AP4 and better in today's game to truly make it effective.

The Lascannons on the Exterminators also seem out of place. You're putting an anti tank weapon on a vehicle that's designed to be anti-heavy infantry and anti-light vehicle. So you'll blast away at the desired targets and randomly get one Lascannon shot as well, which unless its against heavy armor is wasteful.

The thing is, even if he does drop the Carapace he doesn't have enough points for more plasma squads. It's one of the rare-ish times where giving them more gizmo's may be better than attempting to squeeze more guns.
However I'd be tempting to make the plasma vets melta vets, dropping all the carapace and trying to fit another CCS w/ plasma, but I don't think the points are there.

Well, if he drops the LCs and HB Sponsons on both Exterminators, that's 70 points saved right there. Plus the 75 you saved him already, that's 145. Dropping the Carapace Armor on the squad of Plasma Vets is 30 points, that's 175. And lastly, dropping the Carapace Armor on the CCS is 20 more points, for a total of 195.

170 buys a Vet Squad with 3 Plasma Guns and Chimera (HB or HF, either is free). Now there's 25 pts left, Sniper Rifles on Veterans are 5 points per. Take those out, now you have 40 points left. Put 3 Meltas on that Veteran squad instead and now you have 10 points left.

Spend the last 10 points as you wish.

Yay guards math.

If he puts melta on the foot sloggers they aren't going to be doing much other than being the other guys first blood.

Whoa, didn't see that.

25 pts left from the previous cuts, take out the Vets with Sniper Rifles, that's 70 and 15, so another 85 pts. That's 110 now. Drop a Plasma Gun on the CCS, that's 15 more points, so 125. Then convert the 2 Plasma Guns on the CCS to Melta Guns. That saves 10 more points, since each is 5 points cheaper. Now you've got 135 pts. 130 buys you a Vendetta.

If I owned a vendetta/valk I would most likely use that. I am not about to go buy one either. I use carapace on the plasma squads just to help keep them alive when they get hot.

Once again, this is an all comers list so, I have to build a well rounded force. I have thought about taking one of the exterminators and the scout sentinel out, opening up 225 points and taking the krak grenades off the CCs to get 230 points. Adding in a hell hound/bane wolf and a aegis defense line with quad gun.

At 1750 I think you should have 5-6 troops choices tbh, especially in a vets list. I would reconsider all of your options in order to get those troops, and get them into chimeras.

Definite to do for this list
- Strip the Exterminator down and run it naked. It has a 36 in range and will be a complete fire magnet, very likely to die before turn 3 so any upgrade on there is probably a waste

- Dont take carapace armor to negate gets hot... Taking upgrades like that on T3 models is how you lose games fast. Just do some math quick and figure out percentage wise how much more expensive that squad is (~26%). That means you are 26% of the way towards another squad... I honestly can't think of many situations where this upgrade could possibly be worthwhile.

- Take Plas on your Vets and melta on your STs, your STs will have a lot better chance at getting close to a viable target with all of their melta guns than Vets will also if you are worried about gets hot rolls then definitely drop the plasma pistol. IN FACT drop a storm trooper squad and just get a suicide CCS with meltas in a Vendetta. Marbo would also be a cheaper and equally effective unit. Remember boys>toys for IG. So feel free to take the 2 squads but only after you fill out your scoring units.

- Chimeras... Try to find the points to give all of your vet squads a chimera, this will give you AV12 saturation (still surprisingly difficult for most armies to kill) and it gives you a cheap screening unit that should soak up a few shots before probably giving you something to hide behind on an objective. Also just stick to HHBs, you will almost never be in a situation where you will want a HF over a HB on a chimera. HB can fire at any speed (although snap firing), but HF can only fire at combat or stationary and then you can only fire snap shots with your MuL. 90% of the time the HF will be useless and of those 10% that it will be of some use 9% of them the chimera will be shaken or stunned.

- Unsquadron the Exterminators or drop one, 6 plasma blasts on a squad is probably a bit of overkill against units that one would kill, a bit underpowered against units 1 couldn't kill, and too much of a point sink as 1 buys you a fully kitted Vet squad in a Chimmy that will be less of a fire magnet and it can score in 5/6 game types.

Well you have no anti air so if you run into chaos with dragons your armored line will be toast or pretty much any army that has fliers.

Changes. Adding more boys as some put it.

CCS w/ plasma gun x3, grenade launcher, body guard, krak grenades, and chimera(multi laser, heavy flamer)

Vet squad 1: plasma gun x3, chimera (multi laser, heavy bolter)
Vet squad 2: Melta gun x3, chimera (multi laser, heavy flamer)
Vet squad 3: Melta gun x3: chimera(multi laser, heavy flamer)
Vet squad5: Melta gun x3: chimera (multi laser, heavy flamer)
Vet squad 4: sniper rifle x3, missile launcher

Storm trooper squad 1: plasma gun x2, plasma pistol
Storm trooper squad 2: Melta gun x2

Leman Russ exterminator w/ las cannon, heavy bolter sponsons

Manticore rocket launcher
Manticore rocket launcher

Aegis defense line with quad gun.

Took off the carapace from the CCs and vet squad, 50 points. Scout sentinel, 40, one tank, 185 points. Adding defense line with quad gun, another Melta vet squad with chimera, and added a body guard to the CCs.

The sniper squad will sit behind the line, man the gun. Manticore or maybe both behind the line too.
