Currently on hols in Kendal, visited the Gw store and as usual one of the staff came up and asked loads questions and decided to tell me what i should buy.

First we had a discussion about landraiders, me saying they are not that good anymore and him saying you should have a techmarine to make them beasty.

But we finished our epic discussion, with him telling me to get a stromtalon to escort my stormravens for my ba. He said as they were in the white dwarf and their rules 'applied for all space marine codexs', I could have 1? this was definitely not as allies!

I thought he was talking just like when the guys in Newcastle told me that saguinary guard get an extra attack, for having a close combat weapon and a pistol ) I bought the models at the same time as the codex)

But is he correct, can my beautiful stormravens, be escorted by there more ugly younger brothers?

Not according to what I've read, but I'm sure according to someone trying to sell you things.

Its in the FAQ, no they cannot nor can any other SM's take storm ravens

I thought i'd read that, slimy ! So I can sue GW for miss representation? or should i print off the FAQ and nail it to his head?

You can however take the Storm Talon as an allied unit.

Well there's the problem It doesn't matter which one i do, i'd still end up in court!

Well that mean i can have 3 storm-ravens and if i recall correctly 2 storm-talons (or maybe 1 i cant remember how many heavy support you can have as allies). That's quite decent.

They're FA not HS - and it's only 1 in under 2k point games.

With 3 SRs though, you're probably already in the 2k area so that'd be 2 STs.

If you play regular, single Force Org games, then you'd be limited to one ST allied to your BA. As Rigel2 said, if you play 2k+ with double Force Org, you could get two (and up to six Stormravens! )

8 flyers would be over 2k points (because of the required units for allies)

But 6 or 7 is possible.

You can squeeze ~9 or 10 into a 2k list in Necrons. It'd be a pretty one-dimensional list.

Oddly enough, that list would exist in more dimensions than a normal necron list if you look at it fluffwise.

No. Stormravens are only 1 per FOC slot, and are not heavily undercosted which makes the 4 SR BA+GK"spam" army pretty poor.
Same goes for Stormtalons.

Compare those to Night Scythes:effectively 3 TL Autocannons as weapons, only Flyers that can safely disembark any of their troops while Zooming, only flyer that can have troops embark upon while zooming, Immune to shake and resistant to Stun, for the huge price of 100 points.
It's hard to say which is more underpriced, vendetta or NS.

Got to go with Night sythes, as on top of everything else they can also carry Tomb Blades.

So they just barely lose out to guard for most flyers in a list? 9 in the fast attack slots, and if you use 40K approved FW, 3 in the heavy support, plus one or two sky talon transports which don't take up a FOC slot.

Neither. If you did end up buying one, take it back and claim that it was sold with misleading information; depending on your local laws, they may be forced to give a refund. If they refuse, that's when you take it up with head office.

I have run seven vendettas and a vulture in my elysian list. Being honest it's really hard to use well.....placing that many flyers is actually not fun.......nor practical.

I normally just run a couple at most now

I recall reading an official line sayings something like, "Yes, its only codex marines, the other marine codices already have units capable of doing the same thing". That may be a debatable point, but I do know that it was the intentions of GW that only armies from Codex:Space Marines could take Stormtalons. =P
