Subject: Clean Necron Tactics vs. Dirty

First post. (yay!)
How would you go about creating an oldcron army with the newcron codex, while making it viable, fun to play, and challenging without using "crutches"? ex. flyers, stormlord, scarab farm
Is it possible to do it somewhat fluffy, without using "dishonorable units" like deathmarks or wraiths?
The problem with necrons I feel is that they seem rather underhanded. I feel dirty when I use my MSS to win a combat or challenge, because my opponent didn't even get to attack me half of the time. My victories already seem halfway-bought to me and using tried and true tactics like death and despair doesn't help matters.
I guess what I am asking is, how does one go about making a "clean" necron army?

Warrior blob, 2 Ghost Arks, either another blob or 5 Warriors (for the GA) and a full squad of Immortals, 3 AB, a DL with 6 Wraiths (2-3 Coils), Zandrekh to help the Warrior squad out, Destro-Court (4 Lancetek, 1 Chronotek) that hops on board of a GA in turn 1, squad of 3 Heavy Destroyers. ADL if you got probs w/ flyers. Alternatively: Bastion / ADL w/ Lancecourt. You will lose vs. lame cheese-sh....enangingans like IG gun line and flyer spam, but overall, it's a very viable list that can take on everything.

Since when is war supposed to be fair? Do you also feel bad when you shoot your opponent's unit to death before it gets to do anything? Do you feel bad when you have higher initiative and win a challenge by cutting down the enemy before they can swing?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Play warrior blobs, spyder farms, monoliths and ghost arks. Don't like a unit? Don't use it. But "underhanded" is a major facet of the newcrons, at least the noble units.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

3 Monoliths might be fun to play... Take a warrior phalanx or two and have them teleport between the monolith portals rapid firing anything close...

A silver tide and a bunch of monoliths
it is what i traditionally think when i see necrons and not all this hyperspace wizard mumbo jumbo
though i do like the though of fighting a never ending onslaught of scarabs as watching it scamper through the battle field is very cinamatic i think.
