Since I've (really) recently decided to start a DKOK army, I was wandering what you guys thought the most appropriate codex to use would be. Since I have only flicked through each, I don't really know the pros and cons of each, but so far this is whatI have:
Dkok book:
Pros:
-Awesome Hades Breaching Drill
-The intended book for the models
-Many opponents will not know what to expect
Cons:
-Book is often considered UP
-More money will have to spent on the fw only models
IG book:
Pros:
-Larger variety of units
-More competitive
-Cheaper models
Cons:
-
- Some models that fluff wise make no sense in a DKOK army
So what do you think?

Either is fine and fluffy. Not all Krieg regiments are siege regiments they have Armored and Infantry Regiments as well.

Option C: Both?
Lots of units may be used by either Codex: Imperial Guard and the DKoK army list. Why not have a core set of units that you can play in either format and then some specific ones from either the DKoK list or the IG list?

I see... so fluff is fine with both of them (thanks for the page), but even after that I am unsure of which to go for... Automatically Appended Next Post: kronk wrote:Option C: Both?

Excellent idea! I can't see why I didn't think of this... since you can get the krieg pdf online for free, there's no loss involved of having both prepared!

If you ever play tournaments, make sure its tournament legal. Other than that, what would make more excited to paint/collect and which will you be able to use as much as you want.

The DKoK doesn't have an official codex.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

Both or IG Codex only.
It would be pretty dumb to make a Forge World list and than have your opponent refuse to play you because its a FW codex.
I told my friend to do the same with his DKoK, make 2 list, one you would prefer, ( FW Codex) and the one you use if the player wont play against an FW codex

There is a DKoK Army List in the IA books, though. Galdos wrote: It would be pretty dumb to make a Forge World list and than have your opponent refuse to play you because its a FW codex. Or not get to use it in your local tournaments if they don't allow FW.

Not really. I have an army that can't work without FW units, and my policy is simple: I refuse to play against anyone who insists on making house rules that exclude my choice of official GW products from the game. I'd rather go home and not play at all than legitimize that kind of house rule by modifying my list.
Anyway, in terms of raw power the best option is the codex IG list with FW units (like the Hades drill) added and using DKoK models. The actual DKoK army list is pretty weak, especially now that 6th edition killed assault blob IG, and it's extremely limited in strategy options. That's the approach I took with mine, and I've been completely satisfied with it, especially since I wanted to do a veteran list and Hades drills with melta/plasma vets are awesome.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I still maintain that a Hades Drill with Demo Charge Engineers is the best thing you can make out of the drill.

How is that better than a Hades drill with melta/plasma vets and demolitions? Same demo charge, but with BS 4 melta/plasma instead of no special weapons, and 10x melta bombs to wreck any vehicle within 6+ 2D6" the turn they arrive (don't forget the drill gives a specific exception to the "no assault out of reserve" rule).

My point still stands. You spend this time putting your guys inside your box, taking them to the place, only to be informed no one is willing to play you so you need to go home. Its pretty dumb.
Its still dumb if you have the alternate list but this way you can at least say "oh damn it, let me use my alt list so I can actually play"
Its not like its THAT MUCH WORK to come up with a second version of your list. (In fact its actually a good idea for totally different reasons)

I'm gonna start a DKOK army, and I'm gonna use the normal IG codex. That's because it's a decent codex and because tournaments generally do not accept forge world codexes.

Absolutely reasonable stance to take. Show us some pictures of your army as you get figures painted!

I don't often go to tornys, but the point still stands, as galdos made, that it isn't too much work to add to have a playable vanilla IG army anyway. Besides, with some conversions you could convert a valkyrie/vendetta to make a really nice ww1/2 plane to fit the theme.

Well, it's not exactly "free", the Engineers are as much as carapace armored vets, but without BS4.
