Hi,
I've been thinking about making up some rules for Ogryns on steroids for a Death Korps army for playing one of my buddies that is ok with house rules and selfmade units, and could use some help.
My friend recently made me an Ogryn with a trenchcoat made out of papier maché that I absolutely love the look of, So ill be converting myself a whole squad. I'm also a big fan of the Krieg engineer models, so I'll be adding the same kind of anti-shrapnell armour and of course the iconic Gasmask and helmet.
So as for the rules here are some basic thoughts of mine, basically ogryn engineers:
- The Basic Ogryn stuff; Furious charge, stubborn in assaults, Ripper guns.
- Same sorts of armour as engineers, as they will mainly be charging straight across no mans land into the brunt of enemy fire or emerging in the thick of enemy lines as Hades drills burst out of the ground. Altough I think carapace armour might be a bit too powerfull for ogryn without making them even more insanely priced.
- Maybe gas grenades, altough striking at I10 step might also be a tad powerfull, an alternative sort of grenades or explosives perhaps ?
- I doubt the Krieg +1WS is necesarry
- While unfluffy in the sense that Ogryn really dislike enclosed/cramped spaces. Ogryn emerging out of a Hades breaching drill's tunnel strikes me as suitably Epic and it fits them to be unloaded directly into enemy lines where they are to wreack havoc. I would envision these Ogryn to be exceptionally disciplined after extensive training and conditioning as part of the Krieg force, also I would always run them with a Commisar so I deem this to be possible. However in game terms I can see it being too much of a powerhouse.
So those are basically my ideas, any input, especially as to possible points values would be apreciated. Again this is solely for friendly games, but some semblance of balance would be desireable
