Greetings fellow wargamers, I am planning to start a Necron army (yeah late to the party) and I am currently looking at ideas to cover the cock pit section or atleast convert it on the scythes due to having a disliking of the pilot. I have a similar peeve with the barges with the two necrons controlling it, any ideas on replacing them? For the scythes I have heard that the lychguard shield might work but no idea if it will fit.
Any input would be helpful~

I've seen scythes with plastic cut into shape to cover the cockpit, there's some photos knocking around on here I think. As for the arks, perhaps something like a ping pong ball painted like a res orb? That's a really large area to cover, and keep the feel of the new necron vehicles though, some pics would be awesome if you pull it off! I quite like the pilots on my necron stuff though, but that's just me .

I too am not that enamoured with Necron vehicles requireing humanoid pilots, so I have stuck some thin plasticard underneath the cockpit hole, covered over it with white "Milliput" filler, sanded it flat and flush, then drilled a hole and filed that so I can stick the pilot's 'head' to the 'spine' that travels back from the cockpit. I'll see if I can't run up a photo tonight and post it tomorrow.

You can build the Barges without the pilots and it looks fine.

As promised, here are some pics of my WIP Scythe, going to be magnetised so I can swap between Night and Doom variants.
General shot of the top of the craft.
Closer shot of the cockpit. I used EMA's "Plastic Weld" solvent glue to secure a shaped piece of thin plasticard underneath the opening, then added a smallet piece unside the gap to reduce the amount of filler I required. I then filled the remainder of the hole with the white "Superfine" version of Milliput and once it had cured for a couple of days I sanded it smooth. (Some work still to do near the rear of the cockpit). I then drilled a hole through the canopy, using the Necron head supplied with the kit as a guide, so that when the head is glued directly to the front of the 'spine', the chin is within the cockpit. At this point I realised that the eyes in the head were below the top of the cockpit, so I used a half round needle file to remove enough material that the eyes were visible again and the 'pilot' would have a decent forward field of view.
Shot of the underside of the top plate. The plasticard was cut to fit inside the cockpit 'tub' and so not to interfere with the fit of the parts. Obviously as this would not be seen once the model is assembled, there is no need to be particularly neat here, just make sure it covers the entire opening or you could spend ages filling the entire cockpit tub.
A shot of the top of one of the wings. I have filled the central panel line on the middle section, so the smallest section has a single line in and out, the middle has a single in and two going out, and the largest has a single going in and three going out. It just seemed to make sense to me.
