Bear Lord on TWC charged and get into a challenge, according to the FAQ, his Fen wolves cannot attack. Can they be attacked by the rest of the combat?

It was very annoying to see a TWC Bear Lord with Runic Armour tieing up 1000 points of Draigo Paly Squad.

The wolves are in the Bear Lord on TW's unit right?

They attack the pallys and the pallys attack them as normal for any combat involving multiple models in a unit even if one model is in a challenge.

My opponent insisted that since they are wargear, they stay with the Wolf Lord and cannot be attacked :|. The tourney organizer ruled so as well :\. I was pretty sure that although they were bought as wargears, they act just like normal models that cannot leave the squad of the Bear Lord.

They are normal models in the Lord's unit. The TO was incorrect.

They can be attacked, and even given Look out Sir wounds when not in a challenge.

not sure i agree, i am normally all about giving the dollar to space wolves my roomie is a player. But the entry does list them as wargear, they are barely considered real models except for the fact they can take a LOS rule, and that was only because of the FAQ update. But i could be wrong

either way, The question stands as to why you accepted the challenge of a lone HQ with 1 wolf? it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference.

They are models, part of the unit the Wolf lord is in, meaning they can be attacked. Their status as wargear is irrelevant

This. I'm amazed this was an argument. It doesn't matter how something was bought, once it hits the table it has stats and acts like any other unit. There's nothing in the rule that ever covers "wargear units". Things like the Chaos Marines combat familiar is specifically explained. Very poor show on the part of the TO.

They are full models with a full stat line. They form a very odd unit with the wolf lord but a unit non the less. A unit consists of models and I see nothing in the rules to treat them different,y.

As to the wargear isn't models does that mean that a tech priests servitors aren't models either? Why do you thing there is a major difference in the wolves?

Agreed, but as said before, why not turn down the challenge? and what would the correct ruling have changed (not saying it would/would not have been different, I'm genuinely curious how this would have affected the game)?

The correct ruling could have forced a leadership check on the wolf lord. The same thing used happened to me where aa twc lord won the challange but lost the combat. It was quite a pain in the ass to fal back.
