Scavvies were one of my first Necromunda gangs, aside from Cawdor, so I've always had a soft spot for them. However the models have not stood the test of time, in my opinion, and the early 2000's remakes were fairly uninspired. That said, there's probably a half dozen incredible blogs here on Dakka with plenty of examples on how to build a Scavvy gang with GW plastic kits. While I'm not venturing unexplored territory with a plastic Scavvy gang, I think my take on them is unique enough to stand apart, although I may have borrowed a few ideas here and there.

I haven't gotten around to naming the individual gang members, but I have named the gang - Oddfellows. Names and a few tales from the dark depths of the sump will come in time, but the focus now is to build and paint, and hopefully characters will emerge in the process. I've got a fairly clear vision of the models, and most of the supplies on hand, so I hope construction will happen quickly.

As usual, I've managed to ramble on rather than just getting to the good stuff, so I'll make one final note and then you can get on to the pics, these first 4 are mostly done, but still pre-greenstuff phase, so not 100% in most cases.

One last thing to mention, I had originally planned on making my own bases, but I had a bunch of these resin bases, so I didn't want them to go to waste, as they are quite fitting.

Comments and criticism is welcome and appreciated, as always. Thanks for reading.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

I thought the bases were Micro Art studios "Old Factory" bases, but they don't seem to have them on their website anymore, so maybe they were discontinued, or I'm mistaken on where I got them. The Warstore carries the 40mm ones, but that's the only size they have: http://www.thewarstore.com/product47952.html

I do indeed. I'll be using some heavily converted Island of Blood rat ogres. I was uncertain if they would work, but if you remove their massively over-sized arms they aren't all that much bigger than an Ork nob. They'll be bulky for sure, but I'll take rule of cool over worrying about them getting cover in game any day. I got some Crypt Horror heads for them and they looked pretty sweet just when I was test fitting. I gotta say, aside from the Scavvy King I'm building, I'm most excited about the Scalies.

yeah scalies are the coolest bit. I used a rat ogre from Isle of Blood for a pitslave ogryn and I have to say it is way too big to really use the scenery much. If possible get them on the smaller base, depending on your terrain this will probably let them stand in more places. My ogryn can't even fit on some walkways etc, it sucks for a model that ideally wants to hide and make use of cover.

Bunch of models I've built but haven't gotten around to posting here:

And here is a model I did maybe 3 years ago that I plan on reworking. Thought I'd post "before" pics ahead of reworking him.

This is a WIP Scaly, which I'm slightly on the fence about. While I wanted a hulking monstrosity, I feel like the arms may be too big and the neck is a little off. I'm going to keep at it, but I may switch to a smaller frame, perhaps the savage orc plastic - we'll see.

Here is my Scavvy King. This guy has a very similar look to the scavvy leader models released by GW, especially the topknot. I always thought the scavvy leaders looked cool, so I wanted to stick to that style.

He is still a WIP and needs some greenstuff work to finish him, but that's really just touch up work.

Here is the newest addition to the gang. He has the Bloated mutation from the Anthony Case Scavvy list and PDH's Scavvy list, which is what I'm using. The eviscerator type chainsaw will count as a massive sword, and the holstered weapon on his back will be a scattergun, or shotgun possibly.

And this is him painted:

I love your Scaly! It's really a beauty, and I don't think you should change a thing. The hulking arms and bulging neck compliment it, and give it a real 'proto' human hulk vibe. Excellent head choice too!

Your fatty is excellent, the head is really characterful, and the paintjob is brilliant.

The Scavvy King is based off the VC Wight Lord.

It's been awhile since I've had time to work on anything model-wise, but I got a new wyrd mutant together. He's not finished yet, still need to add some accessories and finish the sculpting, but his current state should give a pretty good idea of what I'm going for.

Here's the newest gang member - a stubgun wielding twist. He has a hook hand, which will count as the claw mutation. The model is a relatively simple conversion, but he is one of my favorite so far. I had planned to save this head for a plague zombie, but like it so much I had to use it on a regular gang member. It's very reminiscence of a Fallout raider, which is one of my all-time favorite games.

I've been building a few more models rather than painting what I've built so far, but my gang is almost complete, so I'll be painting the whole lot very soon.

So I started with this simple conversion, but something was definitely lacking.

So a little sawing and cutting and he was reimagined as this creepy old bastard.

I think I may be overdoing it with the shoulderpads, but I tacked this one on for feedback. What do you guys think - with or without?

Here is a horribly disfigured mutie. With a bit of luck he'll get the "Horrible Scars" injury at some point in the campaign.

And another scavvy twist.

Comments and criticism welcome as always. I've been working on my scaly as well, and have completely redone the model from the previous post, so I hope to have him ready to show off next!

I finally worked out my issues with the previous Scaly conversion, and found the alternate Rat Ogre model worked better. There are still a few detail bits to do, but the model is mostly finished.

That scaly looks great, probably one of the best scratch built scalies I've seen! Is it a scatter cannon/throwing axe combo I see?

I had a bad priming issue with a few of my gang members, which is really apparent when zoomed in on these painted photos. Unfortunately, it has been humid for quite awhile and I risked priming as i didn't want to wait for a week or more for the weather to improve. I definitely affected the overall quality of the models, but during game play it shouldn't matter. The photos are a bit crappy as well, but I couldn't get anything better after an hour of messing with it.

Edit: lost a lot of the photos above, but reposted pics of the painted stuff and some notable wip models.

It's a shame about the primer, I hate when that happens! A couple of moths ago I had the paint removed from like 17 old metal blood claws, then had the mold lines removed, based them, prepared their arms for pinning and then I primed them, and it got so horribly wrong I had to throw them down the paintstripping-jar straight away...

But you seem to have gotten away easier though because those scavvies of yours looks great never the less!

About time I dug this thread up...

A few new members for the Oddfellows:

As named by my fiancée, the first Scavvy is Maximus and the second Hive Scum/ Scavvy merc is Bartholomew.

More to come soon.
