This thought was spurred on by the Allies chart. Everyone can ally with someone except the Tyranids. No one wants to be their friend and at first glance that makes good fluff sense. The Tyranids destroy everything and threaten all life in the Galaxy. But the Chaos gods aren't bound to the galaxy. They exist in the Warp so why should they care about Tyranids at all. In fact, why don't they like the Tyranids?

Tyranids have aspects about them that seems a perfect fit for the Chaos gods and what they represent.
The Tyranids are primal fighters. They will charge head long into enemy lines to rip them to shreds with their teeth and claws. They will kill an entire solar system and then move on to the next fight. Khorne
The Tyranids use a variety of potent acids and spores to poison and weaken their opponents. They also turn death into new life by devouring planets to create more Tyranids. Nurgle
Tyranids are designed to adapt and change. They can evolve in minutes to face whatever is thrown at them. They are also pretty simple minded which would make them easy to manipulate. Just throw some food in front of them and lead them to whatever you want destroyed. Tzeentch
Tyranids could be called the perfect organism. They are single minded in their purpose and nothing will stray them from it. Slaanesh but a bit of a stretch.

They also plan on devouring every chaos worshipper in this realm and the next. Which weakens the gods just a little.

I think the idea is that the chaos gods might not hate tyranid but tyranid hate them.... tyranid won't ally with anything as everything is food

Because if Tyranids eat Humanity the Chaos Gods will disappear as well because they draw almost all their power from Mankind.
And that can be a little troublesome for them.

My guess is the Tyranids cause a shadow in the warp making it even harder for daemons to materialise into the material realm (and it is hard enough to begin with for daemons to materialise...)

Without the Hive Mind Tyranids are pretty mindless. They aren't worship worthy material and the Hive Mind isn't something that would fall over for anything other than itself.

The closest to a follower would be the Genestealer Cults but then they worship the Hive Mind, but you did back in 2nd edition have Slaanesh worshiping Cults if I recall, and I guess others but that's not the case now.

The Hive Minds purpose is too singular to allow for any deviation and its control over its subjects is total. Obviously until that link is severed, and then they do not seem to display any traits other than suicide or base self - preservation.

i don't think the Chaos Gods understand the Tyranids and the Tyranids them. Their minds are unfathomable to other races an this is something that the Gods can't turn to their advantage. You must understand the concept of Gods to offer praise.

Besides, the Tyranid Hive Mind is pretty much an umber-powerful warp entity, much like the chaos gods, moving in on their turf. It's pretty much an even bigger threat to them than Necrons.

Because the Tyranids are terrible party guests. They show up, they don't bring anything to share, they eat everything, and then leave.

Tyranids don't have a point of view as we understand it. They don't make war. When they attack they are violent and destructive because it is the best way of destroying anything that may resist the swarm.

Tyranids do what nature does. All of nature is an arms race with each species evolving to compete with other species by becoming a better hunter, better at not being hunted or like with ants, bees etc becoming so numerous they can afford to lose members of the colony.

Tyranids are doing exactly what nature does only speeded up many times, they evolve overnight not over thousands of years. The Chaos gods can no more enlist the aid of a Tyranid anymore than they can enlist the aid of some random turtle chomping on a piece of tasty lettuce.

Its because the Tyranids would sterilize the galaxy(as would Necrons) and that would mean no more entertainment for the Chaos Gods, no more delicious souls to suck, no more fiddling in the affairs of mortals.

It would just be the 4 Chaos Gods in the Warp, and that would get boring fast.

The Tyranids don't hate anyone. They just want to eat everything. The Chaos Gods are opposed to the presence of the Tyranids because they seek to devour all life in the Galaxy. The precious life that Chaos needs in order to keep itself good and strong and keep the Chaos Gods entertained. Also, the Tyranids cause a shadow in the Warp that makes manifestations of psychic energy very difficult; whether it be for psykers or Warp creatures like Daemons.

Chaos gods grow more powerful off raw emotion, and nids aren't well known for emotion. Also they have warp free psychic powers in the fluff, making them immune to chaos and their gods. Basically they are the complete opposite of what *CHAOS* is. They are total and complete order. The hive mind is like a god of order with its own warp, and one that is as powerful as the warp of chaos as well. Hence shadows of the warp taking over from the original warp where large groups of tyranid psychic power resides
Also the necrons are the biggest threat to chaos because if they prevail they will seperate the immaterial for the materium, in other words making it impossible for the warp to ever reach through into the universe. Anyone who has read the Dark Apostle series will know of the nexus, a hand held necron device that when at only 8.5 percent of its total power output completely cut off a whole imperial sub sector from all warp travel, and at 100% power completely cut off the whole sub sector from all psychic power usage, including banishing daemons fr daemon engines and cutting dark apostles so powerful that they could catch a company champions power sword in between their hand and beat him to death without any weapon other than his hands.

The Gods are Gods of Emotion.

Khorne=Angry
Slaanesh=Happy
Tzeentch=Optimist
Nurgle=Pessimist

Tyranids are none of those things. There's no emotion, just the physical feeling of hunger.

Hehehe, let me explain something rather interesting about Tyranids and the Chaos Gods. The Chaos Gods are born from the warp, live in the warp, and feed on emotions thrown into the warp. Now let me paraphrase the passage from the Tyranid codex pertaining to the shadows of the warp. Tyranids do not draw their powers from the warp. They don't even acknowledge it. Instead, their power is drawn from the sheer gesalt will of the Hive Mind. Now, if we factor in the fact that Tyranids have the odd ability of nullifying the warp in their area, as demonstrated by the fact that the Astropaths are unable to communicate with systems under tyranid invasion, you can imagine why they do not, in fact, want to do anything with the Tyranids. Your an omnipotent god of chaos, and living in the warp. Would you like to deal with the fact that a new group of guys just walked into your galaxy, and rather than powering you, they are singlemindedly killing everything in their path while utilizing sheer will that seems to be able to overcome warp energies?

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Yeah Nids are biological weapons part of a alien sentience not of this galaxy,

They do not possess emotion, only cold hard instinct. The Chaos gods are all about emotions and the energy they produce, its where they derive their power. So you have a massive swarm of hyper-destructive emotionless aliens destroying all of the chaos god's worshipers, you have weakened chaos gods.

The Chaos Gods are probably sustained by the presence of people to worship them. Slaanesh, after all, was birthed by the Eldar.

I have a feeling the Tyranids really ate everything, the Chaos Gods would cease to exist. That is, of course, assuming they aren't sustained by entities in other galaxies as well.

I think the biggest issue would be the Shadows in the Warp they cause. They basically smother Warp eddies making it impossible for daemons to breach into the material realm.

Think of something clever to say.
