Subject: Two Battlegroup Normandy playtests...

Just some pics of playtests for the new book due in April...
A playtest from one of a set of scenarios I am working on based on the fighting around Carentan for BGN. Im interested in doing these as Im avoiding the use of any vehicles as much as I can, mainly as infantry only games are very exciting little affairs, and when your troops quality really counts!
Was a good game, though the Germans were hampered by lots of bad luck, they still managed to give the US Airborne some grief before their morale failed due to mounting losses once those well-armed airborne boys got in close.
Played well, a couple of adjustments to make, but overall alot of fun. Who needs tanks for a good bash!
Man of the match has to go to a group of poor old Glider troops, who got shelled on the way in, machine-gunned, then promptly pulled a 'Call of Duty' test to assault a section of bocage. They lived through that, wiping out the Fallschirmjager who were dug-in, only to find a German sMG42 opening up on them... This left one man standing, who was then assaulted and promptly killed the Fallschirmjager attacking him! This collapsed the German right flank, followed by a tirade of fire from US Airborne on the other flank which decimated the Fallschirmjager defending that side.
Another scenario test, this time seeing D Company 506 PIR fighting with some elements of FJR6...
This time the Germans got a little tank to help (which proved utterly useless) but they managed to inflict heavy losses on the attacking US troops by interlocking fields of fire from their MG teams and rifle squads. With the Germans either dug into the bocage or in buildings it was a very hard nut for the US to crack, even though they out-numbered them 3 - 1. Of particular annoyance to the US Pars was one particular sMG42 that while on 'ambush' caught a squad of US Airborne running over a road and mowed them down to the last man... The Germans also had a particuarly effective little sniper who proved to be a pain!
Was a close enough game, but the Germans got the better of it this time and saw off the US airborne, who sustained heavy casualties among two of the Paratroop platoons.

If you already have a load of 15mm stuff there`s no need to switch to 20mm .there is a load of places which do 15mm ww2 stuff man if bf don't do then hit Google and chances are you`l find it .to be honest i don't get why people buy from bf when the same stuff is cheaper from places like peter pig and many others .i not sure id even bother changing ranges or movement distance from 20mm to 15mm ,i play WAB in 28mm and 20mm and the only thing we changed was the cav base size down to 20x40mm thats it and it works just fine .
oh btw forged in battle do those in 15mm http://www.forgedinbattle.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_41_24&products_id=236

Loads of companies make them in 20mm. Those ones are Britannia but SHQ do a lovely one too.

No need to adjust the distances/ranges at all. The rules are written for 15mm and 20mm to use the same.

Oh aye man id keep it as is esp since the ranges are already reduced .otherwise you'd be playing on a five a side football pitch .games got some cool little elements which i like a lot and nudges you towards a balanced list or away from power gaming.

I got buckets loads of figs from other companies.i guess i just prefer the BF infantry,Some are not the best sculpts. But i do not think that the plattoon packs are that badly priced and include bases.
