Could we implement a feature where you can tag someone's name, similarly to Facebook's functionality, and have a user be alerted whenever their name is tagged? It might open up greater opportunities for interaction between users.

you can tag by wrapping a name with user ubb tags eg: ph34r. (quote this post to see the code).

It is not used frequently enough to justify alerting, and I suspect we'd end up with a significant amount of username spamming like you see in facebook, except worse as everybody would have to read it in public posts.

Agree with lego, this isnt Facebook/Twitter, i for one like it that way. (but i do see where you are coming from)
