First off, just wanted to thank everyone on the boards here. With your help I’ve gone from wanting to chuck 40k to having fun with it. I’ve polished up my Waaagh with some success. I’ve got enough units now to fully fill my org chart and I’m looking to branch out my collection with select units of ork allies of convenience. The two halves of my army are footslogging (Squads of boys in formation with BM KFF) to take objectives, and dakka (Lootas behind an aegis w/ kannon batteries, Icarus LK, BM w/SAG) to damage armor.

Both run a little shy of 900pts, so with about 600-1100 pts to work with, I’d love if each poster might suggest what units would you add from each of the 4 allies (Tau, Nekron, Imperial Guard, Chaos SM) to balance out either the shooty or sloggy. (I have other stuff like kans, deffkopters, meganobs, warbosses ect, so if you don’t like my army as is feel free to mix them up.)

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

For IG, I would love to see shooty supported by Bane Wolves or Hell Hounds. For tau slogging, fire warriors and rail gun support.

Issue is, orks don't get battle brothers.

I think some of the Tau ranged units and maybe some IG like a Basilisk to support the sloggers. I have a looted basilisk but I'd love to use one with the actual IG weapons.

WAAAGH!!!

I currently run my Orks with Tau and have had great success. My suggestion would be running squads of fire warriors as your Tau troop choice and Broadsides as your heavy support.

The Str 10 shots off the broadsides gives you the ability to clear armor off the table with ease and fire warriors make excellent fire support.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. No love for metal boys or Kay-oos?

If you run Guard, I have a small bit of options here for you.

HQ
CSS - 4 PG
Company Commander - Boltgun

Elite
Marbo/Stormtroopers/PBC

Troops:
Platoon (you can get over 100 Guardsmen into one platoon easy)
PCS - 4 PG/4 GL/4 MG
PC - Boltgun

Guardsquad 1: AC, GL/FT/PG
Guard Squad 2: AC, GL/FT/PG

Fast Attack:
Vendettas are an excellent choice, Rough Riders are underestimated as well.

Heavy:
2 Basilisks, 1 Griffon (Griffon fires first to abuse barrage)

Just my two cents here.

Tau:
Shas'o - PR, MP, HW Drone controller, Target Lock, Iridium armor (You can stuff more suits in as guards)

Elite:
3 man Crisis suits - PR, MP, Target lock, (leader uses HW Drone Controller) Use shield drones as they mimic the stats of the owner.

Troops:
12 Firewarriors - Target painter

Fast Attack:
Vespid Stingwing - AT jump infantry

Heavy:
Broadsides - 3 Broadsides - Target lock, Shield drones.

BB's Trading Emporium - 6 Positive Trades

1850 0 - 0 - 0
Marines 1850 1 - 0 - 0
210 points Trolls 9 - 0 - 3

I... I am clogged with dead birds.

I'll bump this thread after we're all done with gluttony and shopping. See everyone at the warstore's mega-bits black friday sale!

Hey, I don't want to bump endlessly, just seeing if anyone has other ideas (or links to threads) about Orks with Nekrons or Chaos. Though I think I am settling on adding IG as my next addition.

I've been running my Necrons with Ork allies. I think it could work pretty well the other way around.

One of my favorite combos to play up is Solar Pulse + KFF. Boosting the Boyz' cover save to 3+ or 4+ is great. If people want to get close enough to be facing a 5+ save (that is, get within krumping range), they are welcome to do so. Otherwise they can stand back at shoot through 3+ cover. Same principle applies to Solar Pulse/Nob Bikers: anyone who gets close enough to negate Night Fight's Stealth/Shrouding (which boosts Turbo-Boosting Bikers to 2+/3+ cover...) won't likely survive to tell the tale. Then you've got Necron skimmers and flyers which can also take advantage of Night Fight.

Eventually a Manticore will show up and ruin your fun, but a few hard counters aside, Necron/Orks cover shenanigans is a very solid combo.

Here's a template you could use:

Overlord (Weave, Mindshackles, Warscythe)
1x Cryptek (Solar Pulse), 1x Cryptek (Voltaic Staff)
5 Warriors + Night Scythe
5 Warriors + Night Scythe
Annihilation Barge

Comes to 630 points. You'll want to deploy the Solar Pulse Cryptek/Warriors on the table (so you can use Solar Pulse turn 1 or 2 if necessary). Screen them with KFF-protected Boyz and pick them up with a Night Scythe later if they need to move. Overlord goes in a Night Scythe...drop him somewhere where he can cause the most trouble (e.g. by a Manticore or some Long Fangs). The Voltaic Staff will be helpful cracking heavy armor. If not, 25 points isn't bad for 4 S5 shots.

Orks may not have battle brothers but they have Tau which is almost as good and are the exact opposite to orks so it fixes the flaws in ork armies quite well(on paper anyway i havnt tried it).

Orks lack range, badly. Tau are all about the fancy dakka. Problem solved! (Also isnt the next step down from battle brothers just you cant use the other races vehicles/heavy weapons?)

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

14000pts Big 'n Bad Orkz
6000pts Admech/Knights
7500pts Necron Goldboys

You can't embark on a battle brothers' transport vehicle either. Under the allies section;
Allies of Convenience units:
. Can't benefit from the Warlord Trait of an allied character.
. Cannot be joined by allied Independent Characters.
. Are not counted as friendly units for the targeting of
psychic powers.
You can take one HS, E, FA and an additional T in addition to the compulsory T and HQ. You're basically just playing 2 separate armies that can't join, but can't attack each other.
