My friend and I are currently in a disagreement about the ADL and the Placing Objectives rule. Here's the contested section of the placing objectives rules

BRB, pg. 121:
No Objective can be placed in, or on, impassible terrain, buildings, or fortifications.

Side 1: Since the ADL is bought as a Fortification, and is listed in the Fortification slot in your FOC, it is what the above quote is referring to, therefore you can't place an objective on/inside it. (ie hugging the wall)

Side 2: The fortifications the quote is referring to is specifically Fortified structures. Since the ADL is listed as "Terrain Type: Battlefield Debris(Defense Lines)", it is not a fortification in any sense of the word except that it occupies the Fortification slot in your FOC. Therefore there's no restriction to placing objectives next to/near it.

You cannot place an objective inside the ADL. that'd be a neat trick anyway as its a wall and you can't put things inside walls.

However there is nothing against putting it .0001" behind the wall.

Yup, side 2 seems to be correct, no placing of objective over or inside the ADL, next to it is fine.

Within the perimeter of an ADL is not " in, or on, [the] fortification." the ADL is a fortification, but the objective, even when placed within the perimeter, is never in the ADL, as the ADL does not have an inside to it.

I guess the only way you could somehow make it illegal would be to either balance it on top of the ADL or buy one of the gun emplacements and set it on top of the objective marker (since the base of the gun is hollow)

It would be awfully difficult to put an objective *in* a Defense Line, considering it's only about 1/8" thick...

Yes, you can defend an objective with a defense line. If you couldn't, you'd never be allowed to put one in difficult terrain or behind a hill.

You are unable to place the objective in or on top of:

The Gun or Relay (if any)
The Wall sections themselves
(they are all part of the fortification and therefore invalid locations. )

You 'can' place the objective 'behind' (as in, the place on the board that the walls of your ADL enclose and/or protect) the walls and/or gun and/or communications doohickie.

The ADL does not have an 'inside' because it is not a building. It only qualifies as a Fortification because it's selected as such as a part of your FOC.

I'm sure that the wording was included to take future building releases into consideration.

As others have said, you can't play anything inside of the ADL. Behind it is a different story, even behind an ADL that is arranged into a square.

If you couldn't move THROUGH an ADL, I could see it a different way, but as that's not a limitation, it's not an issue.
