Hey guys, my friends and I have been aiming to paint some 500pt armies so we could get back into playing and I'm kind of going balls to the wall with my modelling, which is totally a good thing. I decided I wanted to do something easy but effective. When we play, we play for fun so this isn't a super competitive army (though one could argue that's impossible with GK; which is why I also have an Emperors Children army and I'll be painting an Eldar army soon). I had a good time painting these and it definitely rekindled my love for painting. They aren't the best quality but I wanted to get them finished so that I could say that I've done something finally. Yay for accomplishments! I will be creating a table soon, of which I have big plans for and will definitely be making a Blog about it so you can follow my process, and so all my models in all my armies are based the same.

I'm sure you didn't click on this thread to read text, so here's some pictures of them. If you'd like to see any other ones or want to know how I did something, just ask and I shall provide ! Note that you can zoom in as they are fairly large pictures.

Also I was going for the more gritty style (and speed too, haha) hence the drybrushed armour, but I feel that it turned out well. I wish I had a better background to take pictures with instead of just a cutting mat and boxes so I'm sorry for that. Once I finish my table I'll have something far cooler as a backdrop!

Hope you all enjoy them. I used the auto adjusted images on the Dakka Gallery because my phone made the pictures a bit washed out, but you get the idea. Anyways, comments of all kinds are appreciated!

Very clean! I'm in the works of my on Grey Knight army and just finished my first character after coming back into painting.

One question: How did you get the perfect gradient on the weapons?

Very nice, solid, and consistent paint job you have there. It's a classic Grey Knight look. Good job!

This was done with an airbrush. First I painted the swords Regal Blue as a base, then airbrushed Enchanted 3/4 of the sword, then Ice Blue 1/2 of it, and finally White on the final quarter. After the first squad I did this way I tried adding Windex to the paint and holy crap does it ever make a huge difference. You'll notice some speckles (especially from the Ice Blue for some reason) but that was 90% eliminated with the use of Windex. Works wonders I tells ya!

Excellent job mate. Very clean and consistent results . Just one suggestion next time try to use a white background for your pics so we can see model details more clearly .

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

PM me if you are interested in Commission work.

I think my lighting is rubbish because I used a white background as a test and the models were so dark you could barely see em! I need to work on my photography skills, I think. Though realistically once I am done my table (or at least part of it) I'll have something I can use as a background and that will look super badass, haha. Thanks for the comments though! Morale boosted!

I'm not sure which to do next... the Eldar or my table *ponders intensely*

The army looks very well done overall. The weapons look fantastic as well as most of the colour choices. The only thing that doesnt work for me are the bases. You have Grey Bases with Silver Models on them (so almost silver on silver). I think if you put some more contrast on them (like mid brown rimmed bases with light brown sand and that green flock) your models would really pop and really stand out. Never under estimate the power of bases! lol. Keep up the good work

What ratio of windex are you using? And what sort of thinner? I've only been using water as a medium for airbrushing, and it goes... ok.

Also, the blades look great but you could have made them look excellent by masking one half of each blade, and reversing the gradient on each half. So it fades blue to white on one side, and white to blue on the other. It only takes a couple of extra minutes and really improves the look of the models.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Ratio was probably about 50/50, so it was pretty watery. I believe it was the consistency of milk or close to it. And that was it, haha. No additional thinner or water. Just sweet sweet Windex.

As for the reversing gradient, that is a good idea (especially since I wanted to practice my masking abilities and I bought tape specifically for it. Good $3 purchase, haha), I was going to do it then I forgot to do it on my first model and well, basically didn't care too much afterwards.

With whichever army I do next I will be spending a lot more time with the airbrush and masks and making it look fantastic.

Oh and with regards to the bases, yeah I totally understand that the colour palette of silver and grey don't exactly compliment each other, but that's how I have already based one of my armies and liked the look of it so it just sorta stuck. And since I am going to be making the board in that same colour scheme it makes sense to me.

I don't mean to sound stubborn, just explaining why I did what I did and didn't do what I didn't do, hehe.
