Yo.

So, right now I have 1500 pts of Salamanders. Instead of expanding them, I was thinking of taking an allied detachment of Sisters, because Celestine looks pretty ridiculous, and the whole "purge with fire" theme fits pretty well with Salamander flamers.

Is it worth dropping 500 pts into them for Celestines, 10x Battle Sisters, and 10x Seraphim? The option for the extra 500 in Salamanders would probably be a Librarian and 10x Vanguard, or a couple Thunderfire Cannons.

Thanks!

Saint Celestine is awesome in all reguards.

The majority of the codex struggles greatly to keep up.

Just think of it like this ... will the sisters squad do anything better than a normal Salamander squad?

I would think it's more of is the drop in power of a Sisters squad from a Tactical squad worth Celestine? I would say, yes. That and, despite being old and metal, Sisters are awesome!

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

Celestine speaks for herself, there's nothing to say here.

10 Seraphims lead by Celestine will be really hard to kill. Her 2+ protects the squad really well and you can LoS hits that could potential instantly kill her. Once they get in flamer range, their AoF to re-roll wounds will decimate just about anything.

10 sisters of battle is also a decent troop to hold an objective. Give them 2 flamers for cheap wall of death and with their acts of faith, they won't be running off the objective very often. Don't expect them to win any combat if they successfully get charged however.

With only 2 squads to use faith on, you won't be running short either.

Celestine with Serephim are a great combo. With re-rolls to wound(with Act of faith) and Hit and Run, they are hard to take down.

Well, here's what I'm running now. It's kinda generalist, but I've had good luck with it, especially against my brother heavy tank IG.

HQ
Vulkan

Elites
Ironclad Dread /w Flamers and Drop Pod
10x Sternguard w/ Combi-Meltas
5x Hammernators

Troops
9x Scouts w/ Snipers + Telion
10x Tac with Flamer and Multi Melta, Drop Pod
10x Tac with Flamer and Multi Melta, Drop Pod

Here's what I'm thinking of adding with Sisters;

HQ
Celestine

Troops
10x Sisters, 2x Flamers, in Rhino

Fast Attack
10x Seraphim, Hand Flamers and Infernos (Celestine sits here)

Total, it's 1500 Salamanders and 500 Sisters. The Salamanders are a complete drop pod/deep strike list, so the sisters Rhino would be quite the vulnerable target on turn 1, but 2 pods will drop on turn 1 as well, I usually drop my Ironclad and a Tac squad.

It is nice that sisters have the 6++ on all units and transports. Also, Serephim get to re-roll their failed shield of faiths, in case of an instakill getting through, a 6++ isnt much but having a re-roll has helped me a lot with a stray melta or rail gun

Here's my issue; do I take those sisters, or do I take the following;

HQ
Librarian w/ Jump Pack & Stormshield

[b]Fast Attack[/v]
Vanguard Veteren's x10 w/ Jumpacks & Melta Bombs

I figure, with the sisters I get a completely OP HQ and a nice attack squad w/ Hit & Run. On the flipside, the Vanguards are better than the Seraphim and can make a deep strike assault, mucking up the battle from their first turn on the ground. They also get 3 attacks base as opposed to Seraphims 2. But then, sisters get an extra squad plus Rhino.

Such a hard choice -.- I WANTZ THEM ALL!
