Hey all I have the mindset to build an army with 3 c'tan shards in it. Annoyingly there are only 2 models. I think itwould be cool if all 3 shards looked different so I was wondering if there was an older model that looked different enough from the two current shards being released?
For those of Yuri asking way they are a waste of points. The* answer is a. Personal army fluff and b. They just look awesome and have sweet fluff. C. Some pretty cool abilities.

The only two C'Tan models ever released were the Destroyer and the Deciever. The current models are also the only versions of those models, since Necrons are a fairly young codex and have only ever seen two major releases. If you want a different model for the third C'Tan, you are going to have to either look for other models from GW, or perhaps even some 3rd party models.

Am I allowed to do that? Say take a daemon prince and say "c'tan prince!"? Not looking for special rules just a different look since from what I can well reading the Comdex the two are the exam same just look different.

Well if you're just looking for an alternate model this one works pretty well I think, although I can't speak to its base size compared to a normal shard http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/MOURNGUL.html

Alright so here is the main question just saw the sphinx from fantasy and it looks awesome. Could I use that as my c'tan shard? And while it won't happen for a while if I ever did a tournament what my sphinx* be accepted as a shard?

The only things that really matters is that it is about the correct height and is on the same base size. 40k tournaments aren't like Warmahordes tournaments where there are strict rules for conversions, as long as your opponent is unable to argue that you are modelling for advantage, you will be fine.

You could just make your own. C'tan can take any form they wish. Hell, you could probably get away with drawing an angry face on a stack of rocks.

Unfortunately the Necrosphinx is a lot bigger than either C'tan Shard model. Probably too big to be passable in competitive play. I think most players and TO's would give a lot of leeway for C'tan conversions though. Just try and keep the size consistent with the official models: somewhere between 3-6" tall, 40mm or 60mm base.

I doubt that a list with 3 C'tan will be used in a competitive environment though OP: There are, iirc, 4 known C'tan in the universe and 2 got a model: The Nightbringer The Deceiver The other two are: The Dragon (currently caught in a Tessaract labyrith on Mars after almost killing the "Emperor", slowly corrupting the Adeptus Mechanicus / leeching their souls) The Outsider (rumored to be somewhere in the galaxy, hiding. So powerful that even stupid tyranids stay away from his presence) So basically, any dragon model seems fitting for the former whereas the latter...hmm...that's another thing, though, as fluff-wise, it makes no sense that e.g. The Dragon suddenly appears on the battlefield despite being held on mars. Galrauch might work just fine though ( WHFB model). Dark Elf Black Dragon might work too ( WHFB again). The Outsider is more likely to appear and you are free to choose his appearance given that I can't recall any precise info on him despite him being completely insane. Idea: Forgeword Keeper of Secrets, you'd want to model the boobs away though. The older model might fit more, but it seems to have been replaced. Old one:

A lot of people are thinking the same way. It's the right size - that's a Fantasy monster base, so equivalent to a 40k 60mm base. It's tall as well (though maybe not quite as tall the current C'tan models). Personally I think it would make a fantastic Outsider shard. Crazy cannibalistic C'tan. The aesthetic definitely fits with the current C'tan. You'd want to remodel the horse into something else though. The models above, the FW greater daemons, are frankly far too big.

I don't really like the Mourngul though as it lacks a proper body - it looks more like a big spirit yet the C'Tan are actual corporeal gods. The Mourngol would represent either the Dragon (that's about as strong as the Emperor) or the Outsider (that's also described as extremely powerful) and I can't imagine the fluff going well with a spirit :/ The Incarnate Fire Elemental looks awesome too. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters/INCARNATE_ELEMENTAL_OF_FIRE.html http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics16/img508ad5f04a048.jpg The cloth thingy with a frail body also fits well to the other C'Tan. The model could be used as both C'Tan, depends on your painting. Paint it dark / greenish / ghost-like and you got a good Outsider. About size: keep in mind it's a fully beer&pretzels list thus differences in size aren't likely to be a huge matter.
