Subject: looking to go back into the game, Not quite sure where to start?

A long time ago, when Magazines were the best way to get lord of the rings miniatures, I had bought those old Daegonstini LotR books that came with a frame of models and a magazine.
Time has passed now, and I don't have any of those magazines in my possession anymore.
needless to say, I'm looking to get back into this game (not that I was ever really in it.) I picked up a set of Uruk-Hai scouts and I've been painting them (I do so love Uruk-hai).
I looked at the website and was trying to find prices for the rulebooks for the small scale minitures game (the one that isn't War of the Ring.) It seems that this game doesn't exist anymore, or something to that effect. It has been replaced solely by the War of the Ring.
What troubles me more is the introduction of the Hobbit, does this mean that the game I'm looking at, the game played between 2 people each with as little as twelve models doesn't exist anymore?
If that's the case, what rulebook should I be buying?
Rather, what's the best way to get started, baring in mind that I will want to use Uruk-hai.

Hey there,
Well it's all a bit in the air at the moment but here's what we know and think.
LOTR is still there but the range in store is being replaced by the hobbit which is essentially the same game with the same mechanics but they have added little bits so if you remember anything of when you picked up the Deagostini stuff it will still serve you well
It should be still more than possible to play LOTR, while I do expect the uruk-hai to be in the new rule book, due to them not being around and GW still wanting to make money on the supplements released late February you can still use them, they are more than valid for a game. What we don't know is how compatible are the hobbit mini's with the LOTR ones in a game. Early indications say they should very similar and balanced but it's a case of wait and see.
HELL NO! LOTR SBG will never be replaced by WOTR, WOTR is merely an expansion to turn LOTR into some sort of fantasy like format....(not a fan if you can't tell )
You most certainly can play the old dozen models and still have a good scrap on your hands! My favourite games tend to be at 250pt level which only comprises of one or two warbands (2 heroes and 2 dozen warriors max generally) because each person counts and the battles are a real struggle, rather than on far larger proportions where it can swing easily too far one way to keep it two sided. It is almost like playing your own little fellowship!
So rule book wise? Pick up fallen realms for now I would say simply because it would make no sense for Uruk's to be in the Hobbit rule book due to time frame.
Hope that helps!

thanks, Scotti
I was more looking at core rules. I never got into reading the books too much (I was only 5~7.) and since then I've gotten rid of them.
I believe fallen realms is like the armybook/codex of the Urukhai, but will it have the core rules that I'm looking for or will I have to amazon/Torrent it? Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh wait.
I am going to have to pay for the Hobbit rulebook, is that going to be the case?

There is no need for you to buy the hobbit rule book as for lord of the rings the "one ring" rule book will serve you well.
It appears it is no longer on the website however this shouldn't be a problem as this means you can probably get a copy of it for a bit cheaper either on eBay/amazon etc or other websites such as way land games/maelstrom games etc.
Get the fallen realms book if you want to play uruk-hai as this will contain all of the profiles for the miniatures you will be using.
Good luck!

Actually, the Hobbit is basically the 'next edition'... so it is pretty much mandatory to have it to be able to play, unless your opponents are playing with the old rulebook.

Yes I thought there were some differences as well, and the Hobbit was basically " LoTR Updated."
I have a slew of figs painted from back when we played WoTR, but my game group dissolved. I could easily play a skirmish version now.
So essentially, could someone please clarify that I need the following:
Hobbit Rulebook (paperback or hardcover)
The Free Peoples (for my dwarves)
and Moria (for my goblins and trolls for now). I have orcs too, but I can get to them later.
QUESTION: If i want to add in Gandalf, or Aragorn or Legolas, or whatever "main hero" from the game are at least those stats in the hobbit book?
I absolutely cannot afford to buy every source book, if that is how the company designed the system.
THANKS

I dont intend to buy the Hobbit, mostly because I find the book rather lacking. Granted it s a good read, but it stops there. Beside I do not see the need to buy something that dose not contain my army either. Easterlings will still be my main army although I may see myself expanding my Moria army if the rules should be any good.
