I am currently painting Vlad Von Carstien and i'm a little stumped on how to paint his face. For now I just base coated in shadow grey, but I don't know where to go from there. The part that befuddles me is making him look almost half-undead but still with a little life in his skin. I was hoping someone with a little more experience in painting undead and vampres could point me in the right direction.

shade his face with greys, highlight with light greys/whites, give him a purple wash, then retouch some of the extreme highlights with white

I mixed grey with a little flesh tone to give it that undead look with just a little warmth, and then used a brown wash.

I think it's a good idea to look at some undead models or even just things from movies and try and establish how you want to go about doing it yourself, as there's a look of "kinda dead" looks that you can go for, then post the images up here and we can give you an idea of how to proceed.

Personally I think the main thing is to stay away from purer flesh tones. You can use reds or purples for shading and then pale greys for highlights, or darker greys (maybe shadow grey) for shading and pale greys for highlights, or you can add a smidge of green to give a sickly sort of look, or you could paint it almost white, just tinted with a bit of red or pink or purple. You can also use a brown as d-usa said, and work with a bit of grey to wash it out and look more dead and less vibrant/alive.

But obvously if you mix too many of those techniques you'll just end up with a mess, so yeah, I'd have a think about how you actually want it to look in the end based on other peoples' work.

Vlad Von Carstien! no do not ruin such a lovely face as rotting, I cannot post pics, since I'm waiting for my Nexus 4 "phone" to arrive :(

but rakarth flesh watered down 2 coats, witch flesh, white extreme highlights.

when you do the witch flesh, make you are painting 80% of the face or such, and only leaving the deneb stone, in the deepest recesses.

after that extremehigh lights with the white so on his noes, check bones ect, then put purple wash, in the deep recesses, and carroburg crimson under the bottom part of the eyes then place more purple in these, you are not floodin g these parts.

please send me a messge if you are internest in pics good day.
