I have been looking and looking at the Empire army for a while now, and with the introduction of the Empire megaforce I am getting more tempted. Is this box set worth it guys? I am relatively new to Fantasy in that I rarely play it compared to 40K so not on top of what is worth getting etc. Any tips would be great.

Yeah its worth it.

The only thing in the box of dubious value is Karl Franz/General on a Griffon. Griffons are lame any way you slice them.

I think its worth it to most people getting into Empire. Last year I didn't buy the Skaven set & then kicked myself when I ended up buying most of the stuff anyway.

Personally I don't like the Luminark but I do like that Griffon model. It comes down to how much you like the look of a model vs. what kind of lists you like to build.

Yeah, but the Luminark and the Hurricanium are a twofer kit, so you can assemble it as either.

It is a great start to any army. Buy 2 and then fill in with more of each unit

I'm looking at getting the box set and a battalion to support it. I got the army book yesterday to try and help me decide and I had a few more questions. Hurricanum or Luminark? Points wise for Karl Franz, is it the base cost and the cost of the mount so him on Deathclaw is 555pts?! Seems a bit too much to me.

Yes, you buy Karl Franz, and then pay the listed points to mount him on Deathclaw. Very expensive.

Deathclaw is not worth it cos he's got no armour save so poison will bring him down easily

Franz on horse is best.

Yup, can't have his ride shot out from under him and it gives him +2 armor.

I'm also tempted by this box and have a couple of questions:

- Is it the griffon kit that can be assembled as a wizard mounted on griffon., so I can put Franz on a horse.
- If you build the celestial wizard cart can I base up the other wizard basically meaning that I can assemble three wizards from the box?

Yes, its the same kit.

And I guess if you have an extra base you will get another wizard from the box.

I used the army box to start my new Empire army, and yes you can stick the wizard on the Griffon and mount Karl Franz on the horse that comes on the Empire General sprue (he fits on there fine without any green-stuff needed). There's also a generic Empire General on the griffon sprue which is what I'm using. The box comes with enough square bases to stick the wizard from the Hurricanum/Luminark on one, but just so you know, you can't build both wizards because there's only one body. The head and arms are different, so you'll have to pick which ones you want.

I like that about the big kits GW are doing. There's generally extra stuff on them you can use with the leftover bits. Building a Coven Throne gives you 3 differently posed Banshees and a Necromancer, just needing bases.

Right so I went into the local GW yesterday and temptation got the best of me. Especially as it was the last box they had. So I am now in possession of my starter Empire army just need to get my building gear from my parents over to my new place and start building.
